I have a friend that works at Tech that told me Tenuta said either he or Nix had to go. Obviously Nix left.

Well then Nix is just lucky as can be to get the offer from the 'Canes (if that's the case). Good timing for him, and us, IMO...

Tenuta is awesome!!!!

Tenuta is an awesome DC except when his gameplan is not working....which is about 2-3 times per year. He actually had an off-year as we finished 6th in the ACC in total defense and 7th in scoring defense...and 7th in red zone defense.

I do not want to lose him...but he does not to chill out a bit with the rest of his peers in football and the rest of the GTAA. The Bobby Knight act is going to bite him in the rear at some point.

Hivered,

That is the reason he isn't a head coach. It's bitten him for years. There was a story about how his handling of a recruit on a visit was so bad that the recruit committed to NC State the next day. Hopefully, he finds that being the much beloved DC curmudgeon at GT is the perfect spot for him.

I wouldn't fault him for the scoring defense so much because it's misleading. We gave up so many points through turnovers and poor kickoff coverage. For istance, Maryland scored one offensive touchdown in which they started with the ball in the redzone and yet they scored 23 points. They also gave up 21 meaningless points to Duke. The stats may not show it, but I think the defense played very well.

And there was this one time, at band camp....

I know people that know him through little league and they are totally perplexed that he's suppossed to be an ahole. Sure, they aren't TECH folks but what better source in this case. Everybody else can't imagine a nicer guy.

I would discount this rumour but I do hope DRad gets/stays involved.

I couldn't agree more about you take on Tenuta hivered. If Pat had his choice, he'd still be here at Tech.

I am talking about temper tantrums where objects are thrown at people and property of others is broken. Hey...he has a temper....fine with me...it is just leaders have to control their emotions even though they have the passion within.

There are some other things that even the "tenuta for HC" people would be shocked at that I will not post.

Do not get me wrong...I want Tenuta to stay at GT as our DC forever. I am just pointing out a fact that needs to change if he wants to do something different. I want to see him get past it....it is good for GT if he becomes a HC somewhere, even at GT, someday....and good for him.

Perhaps he needs a good publicist to work with him?

Maybe you should reread Hivered's posts. He's not talking about his ability to coach but rather his conduct around his fellow coaches.

Yeah, cause Bobby Knight has had so little success in his career...

Yep....Bobby Knight is a successful coach....I would never want him at GT though...not a good representative of college athletics.

Give Tenuta the overall skill level and depth of say a UF or uga (from a few years back, not recently) and he'd get head coaching offers from everywhere. He's done more to make good chicken salad here that he's taken for granted in most parts of the country.

I think this came out after Nix's non use of TC in the second half against Wake.

Then perhaps he should have backed it up with some D against West Virginia. Sounds like he was thinking to much about Nix instead of how bad WV was going to torch his D.

Just have to agree to disagree on this one. I don't know Knight, but I know a lot about what he has done for others from a fellow coach and personal friend of his.
Knight seeks no publicity for the humanitarian acts he performs.

I am not doubting he does humanitarian acts...I am not saying he is Satan or something. He even graduates players at amazing rates. He is simply a vulgar guy that would not fit Georgia Tech from a publicity standpoint. It is really quite sad to see how childish he acts at times. Heck...you could never take your kids to see him speak...he is not even PG13!!!

Bobby Knight is a hell of a coach, however his reputation as a hard a$$ keeps from getting top talent anymore and it shows. He ran Larry Bird, Isiah Thomas, and Jason Collier off.

I remember seeing a quote from KMike prior to the Notre Dame game where he talked about being intimidated by Tenuta initially. As he matured and became accustomed to JT's straight forward approach, he grew to appreciate him. This is true of lots of coordinators who have to be the disciplinarian while the head coach is the recruiter/friend. I just think his bluntness will get him in trouble if he was a head coach and unlike Knight, does not have the cache and ESPN supporting him.
