Is scout worth 50 bucks for 6 months?

No. The schools and the education they provide make that difference. These sites pimp out young men for a buck.

So, these sites have never helped ONE kid get noticed by a school (and, therefore, the education it provides)?

I can't speak for Rivals, but the Scout board is about much, much more than recruiting.

Let me make this clear, in case it was not earlier.

Scouting services, which the schools pay for, notice a lot of kids. I'm sure that helps, but that is different that putting a young man's innermost thoughts, his family issues, grades, etc. online for the world to see.

Pimping the kids out to the general public does not have the same effect as a scouting service for coaches. So no, they don't help a kid get noticed when they post his stats, bench press, SAT, grades, and other info online. These are not race horses. They are people, most of whom will be no more than amateur athletes. And it is not as if these hype machines do anymore than follow conventional wisdom about talent. So no, compared to the invasions of privacy, the commoditization of young men, and the fact that 50 year old men stalk 17 year old boys to find out where they will go to college, no, they aren't worthwhile for the general public. Of course, it is all legal but you've heard why I won't subscribe to these things.

To some extent, the Scout board provides detailed information about what is happening on the coaching staff, practice reports, etc. I can understand that, and think it is useful, but I dislike their general business model enough that I would never knowingly give them money.

I subscribe to both Scout Insider and Rivals (jacketsonline.com). Both are worth the money IMO.

The AJC will actually mislead you regarding GT. Their Tech coverage is horrible. It is like they don't care at all.

Rivals is clearly the better option right now. They are ahead of the curve regarding recruiting (my main interest). Their articles are well written and provide inside information.

As opposed to the schools and NCAA, which are absolutely not pimping out young men to make a (couple million) buck(s) :laugher:.

True, but at least the schools and NCAA give them and education and scholarship. I believe Scout and rivals do far less.

Anyway, I still think it is no one has any business tracking the lives of children who aren't their own, just to see where they will go to college.

That hasn't changed, and you can't deny that is exactly what Rivals and Scout do.

Yep, it is a little bit disturbing. But I think any one of us(and them) would take it in order for the opportunity to play football at the D1 level. Just comes with the territory.

I'd disagree. Scout's insider forums kills rivals.

Why?? Because of more posters??

Rivals inside info is much more plentiful than Scout. Bank on that.

Inside info from all three sports, something Scout cant exactly say.. ;)

For a while, Scout was the only real option because its Insider board was full of information. But once Rivals got its act together and put 2 local guys on the GT site, things just took off. Rivals is now the better site for GT recruiting info. If you want to gossip and talk to a bunch of "people who know people" then join Scout, I guess.

I'm not a member of either and likely will never be.

While I agree that privacy for the kids is important, the kids are using the sites equally as much (or possibly more) than the reverse. In some cases, these sites are the difference between an education/sports career and working the coal mines/steel mills/(pick your favorite regional hard labor occupation) or even worse.

Please tell me you're joking. I don't think that's a contact buzz....I think you're certifiably buzzing off the hippie lettuce.

Then again, you're the perfect example of how Newberg's making his mortgage payment.

What's your take on that 8th grader from Belle Glade FL? Is he gonna enter is 9th grade year as an early 5 star recruit????

Give me a break

Wow. Hyperbole anyone?

The ones that I'm referring to (that use the system as much it uses them) are the "hat-switchers" and so forth - Rivals/Scout aren't responsible for the way they're putting themselves out there (and it's not an invasion of privacy if the person is willingly putting it out there for public consumption).

I've never paid a dime to either of the sites so noone from Scout/Rivals is making mortgage payment with help from me.

At least TechSBP put some thought behind his posts and opinion - can't say the same about THWG_NuffSaid.

Are there sports other than football!?!?

Seriously, I don't do it because of the recruiting info. It's nice getting those updates, but it's also nice having birdies who talk with the coaches.

The whole "learning all about 17-18 year olds" thing is a way to make you feel better about yourself and put others down. It's not a reason people join these services.
