I've taken the bowl streak for granted.

My view of GT is strange particularly for a "dwag," but I watched nearly every Tech game this year and feel it was just one of those years when the perfect storm happened. The team was far better than its actual record. 1) Crazy number of injuries. 2) Schedule harder even than it seemed at first; Pitt, UNC etc were surprises. Someone will say the good teams win the close ones. But it's hard to do when you're starting so many freshmen. Someone here pointed out that the young RBs weren't capable of blocking on the edge, and I think that's very true--something I didn't anticipate. Coaching wasn't the issue. Johnson showed what was possible in '14, and this season to me was an outlier. Next year will be very different.

^ coaching includes managing your assistants. The o-line was godawful. Sewak should be fired and that is on Johnson.

I was around in the eighties and this year was as bad as they come.

So was I. And while the record was as bad as they come, the season, the team and the games weren't.

Back then there was little reason for hope from year to year and dismal game after dismal game. This year we know is an aberration, not to mention we were a single TD away from winning in every loss but two.

In the '80s our facilities sucked and we played on bargain basement AstroTurf. Today our facilities are great with a revamped stadium.

Really, the two eras are only comparable in one season's record.

2014 was an outlier too. Coaching wasn't THE issue but definitely was AN issue in 2015. We started so many freshman because recruiting sucked 2-3 years ago.

It'll be telling to see if all the extra game experience the freshmen got in 2015 is reflected in 2016. It sure didn't seem to matter much at the end of 2015 - the guys were no better at the end of the season than they were at the beginning...and that was a pretty negative reflection of 'coaching'.

Happy New Years Saxon - next year, it'll take more than 13 to beat us.

Back atcha and I couldn't agree more. This was absolutely the low bar, worst case scenario for a Johnson offense. Plus it will be in Sanford, where you guys have a lot more success.

Points taken. While 2014 was technically an outlier, the success had less to do with luck or breaks than 2015. Wins against UGA, Clemson, and MSU were not flukes, just strong football. The injuries this season were a different animal. I'm not in as good a position to evaluate your coaching. I just felt that the injuries, along with the unrelenting schedule, made for a particularly tough situation. Johnson's body of work may not say he's an 11-win coach, but he's closer to that than he is to being a 3-win coach--over time.

Your nuanced views are misplaced here. 2014 was a complete lucky fluke outlier that will never be repeated. 2015 is indicative of CPJ (the 38 injuries are just excuses!!!) and GT. 2015 is what GT will do for the next several decades. Yippppeeee!!!!

excellent post! i concur

This year was worse.

Curry (and Homer Rice) walked into what was essentially a 1-AA/FCS program. Curry's early years were horrible, but we were respectable in 85 and 86. Improvement.

Ross was a perfectionist, and he had to tear things down to build them back up. Ross' early years (87-88) were horrible, but 1990 speaks for itself. Improvement.

There is no reason why a coach in his 8th year should win 2 FBS games with 11 chances. This is the worst season since the '70's for that reason.

We are becoming Wake Forest.

This past season sucked donkey dick. I'm sure we can all agree. Now can we move on. Look at what is around you now and forward. No reason to dwell on the past especially this past season.

One year ago yesterday, we beat a previously #1 ranked SEC team in the Orange Bowl. Step back from the ledge. We are not becoming Wake Forest.

Don't even bother replying to him.

Can't wait until spring practice. I don't care how bad we sucked this past year, we are more much more likely to rebound and not suck. Hope springs eternal, and UGA, Kirby Smart, and that beautiful haired boy from Washington (Eason?) can suck my my overatted dingaling.

What realisticly makes you think this is not the norm?

This is a thread about how it sucks that this is the first time in nineteen season that we haven't made a bowl, and you're asking why someone thinks that this season isn't the norm?

Agreed. We really should have been 8-4. Clemson and ND were better. Didn't play well again in Miami against Miami. But Pitt, UNC, UVA, Va Tech, even Duke were all winnable. There's a fine line between winning and losing and we were on the other side of it far too much.

I think we bounce back in 2016. Gotta have some folks step up in the locker room, the weight room, the sidelines and the huddle.

Because 3-9 isn't the norm? Some of the same people who said last year that we can't overreact based on one really good year now want to overreact based on one really bad year. Last year wasn't an indication that we're poised to become a powerhouse, yes, but likewise, this year isn't an indication that we're about to become a perennial bottom dweller.

yep. Both 2014 & 2015 were outliers. The norm is more like the mediocrity of 2012 and 2013.
