J Batt Thread

Earn what you can at Michigan State. Eventual firing is inevitable. Michigan State will never, ever, be in a position to compete with Michigan or Ohio State, which is the goal.

Maybe now we can get GT athletics to do away with the stupid initiative to put chair seating in the entire stadium, other than student sections.

Now go freeze your ass off.

The fact is that, by and large, a B1G school is going to be much more attractive than an ACC school. We still don't know how much longer the ACC will survive at all, it's already a Division 1b conference. The FSU debacle a couple of years ago proved that.
It has already been shown the ACC is a solid third, over the Big12. These past few years were all about the Big12 passing the ACC. IMO, the ACC is in a good spot, provided we hold together.

Batt has been a prominent name in about 10 different AD searches. Seemed pretty clear he was never here for the long haul, but still a kick in the nuts. Hoping for a long, cold winter up in East Lansing this year.
It is going to be harsh to recruit, for certain. Michigan State had their own head coaching debacle a few years ago. Maybe they think JBatt is the fix for that.

I wish him all the luck in football that Bobinski is having at Purdue.

This was inevitable, but it was also a mutually beneficial several years. No ill will towards Batt, and I'm thankful for what he's done here.

This is the reality of our program right now. When you're middling, you try to make great hires who bring your level up before moving on.

Eventually you hope to get raised up enough that you are a true destination, but we're a long way from that and may never be there again. We just don't have the fan base top be a top AD destination in my opinion.
Reasonable points but its not like Michigan state is all that. I'm actually surprised to be honest.

True enough. They are kind of the GT of the Big X.

I hope this doesn't mean bad things coming from a conference realignment perspective.

This is nothing more than a resume move for Batt. He won’t be fired. He’ll be there about 2 years and a SEC school will come calling. It’s actually a great move for Batt. Mich St has been a dumpster fire (sound familiar). He’ll stabilize them and then bolt for his next job. From a value standpoint, there is nothing else JBatt can do at GT to increase his resume. The biggest sport has stabilized, hoops is a disaster but no one watches or cares. Baseball is what it has been for 3 decades. His reputation is great right now so he’ll go up north, add a BIG school to his resume, and be SEC bound soon. Smart man.

He went to UNC, so that could be a destination too.

Where did he grow up?

I liked J Batt and think he did a good job. Was hoping he would stay a little longer and hate to see him go but GT will be an opportunity for someone else. Good fund raiser, jury still out on hiring. Seemed he wanted Fritz which actually I was for as well so can't really give him credit for Key.
Can't tell if good move or not. BigI clearly has more money than ACC so that has to be a positive for him. Pay differential - who knows.

Relevant part is in bold.

Even if the ACC is solidly in 3rd, it's still a distant 3rd behind the top two.

And UNC will be in the SEC in a few years when the buyout gets to the point everyone jumps. Like I’ve posted before, JBatt was here for his resume. He did us right and is moving on. It was a win win for both sides.

And that is the fault of the former ACC - UNC/Duke centric, leadership. More worried about Duke and UNC having a round robin in basketball and making sweetheart TV deals with his lil squirt.
