Jackets ranked 31st in coaches poll

Eh, I would have guessed in the top 30 but otherwise I'm not surprised or disappointed.

What I am interested in is the 1 vote that Duke received. There's a ballot I'd like to see - where did they have us, top 5?

One thing that I believe (hope, at least) about this coach is that he won't let a team get too high on itself from stuff like rankings, etc.

The pollsters suck pole.

Auburn is still ranked ahead of us.

Unfreakingbelievable.

I agree that rankings can be a distraction, but you have to be ranked to get into an elite bowl. I don't know about you guys, but I want a BCS bowl this year.

Call me crazy. I was called crazy by some when I said Tech would win more than 3 games this year.

(1) If we do not win out or win the ACC, we will not and should not get a BCS bowl, regardless of ranking.

(2) If we win the ACC we will go to the BCS regardless of ranking.

(3) If we do not win the ACC, we will have to go 11-1 to have a prayer for a BCS game. Going 11-1 means beating UGA. This will make the year an incredible success and will cause me to leap around the living room like a crazed teenage girl at the Beatles' debut on the Ed Sullivan Show, possibly wetting my pants and spraining an ankle regardless of ranking.

RANKINGS: WHO GIVES A ****?

How is UNC not ranked in the Coaches' poll?! They're #22 in the AP. They crush the #24 team and are still left on the outside looking in. Winning over Clemson may not get us in either. They're not even in the "others receiving votes" anymore. All that being said, if we win out, we'll be ranked top 10-15. All of the SEC teams will have at least 2 losses by then.

The top 25 doesn't really mean anything this year. It's more so for next year. It's extremely difficult to climb from outside the 25 all the way to the top. And we CAN climb to the top next year, but it will be difficult. We play @Vandy, @F$U, and @Miami. We also get Wake at home next year.

Just keep winning. All else with fall into place. I love the intensity we play with now

This is dead wrong. The BCS takes ten teams now and every year teams go with 2 or more losses.

Also we could win out and not get to the ACC championship game nor the BCS through automatic bid.

The ACC isn't going to get 2 BCS bowls this year, unless God comes down from On High and starts twiddling with outcomes.

We get our BCS bowl completely irregardless of polls, by winning out, VT losing two, and beating either Wake (or someone else for the second time) in the ACCCG.

That PollSpeak site is pretty interesting, especially finding out who the AP voters are. It leads me to this question:

Should/will the ESPN personalities stop voting in the poll once their big deal with the SEC starts next year? Unless I missed one, I saw three voters there who work for the Worldwide Leader: Herbstreit, Fowler, and Craig James. In a sense, every voter, all of whom work for a media outlet that covers college football, has a potential conflict of interest since they could use their votes to boost a local team to help circulation, readership, etc. But when your entity has $2.5 billion invested in one conference, that has a potential for a massive conflict of interest, I'd think.

...and yet, Herbsterit and Fowler are two of the guys who are VOTING FOR US.
