Jackets ranked 31st in coaches poll

The ACC isn't going to get 2 BCS bowls this year, unless God comes down from On High and starts twiddling with outcomes.

We get our BCS bowl completely irregardless of polls, by winning out, VT losing two, and beating either Wake (or someone else for the second time) in the ACCCG.

You're wrong. The Big-12 and SEC are the only two conferences right now pretty much assured of two BCS bids. If we end up 11-1 we would surely get into a BCS bowl. Even Kansas, who played nobody last year except for Missouri (and lost), got into a BCS game after they went 11-1. Even Illinois got into a BCS game after going 9-3.

...and yet, Herbsterit and Fowler are two of the guys who are VOTING FOR US.

And I commend them for their clarity of thought.

My concern about a potential conflict of interest has nothing to do with the fact that it is the SEC that could benefit from said conflict, nor am I concern that it could be detrimental to Georgia Tech's success.

ESPN is giving $2.5 billion to the SEC over the next 15 years in exchange for television rights, with the big prize of course being football games. They now have a huge vested interest in seeing SEC teams do well in order to draw a larger audience. Three of their employees have a vote in a poll that can have a sizable influence on how attractive the games they will televise will look. In a situation like this, the integrity of the poll is threatened. If WJM-TV in Minneapolis gave the MAC $2.5 billion for exclusive rights to MAC games, and Ted Baxter and Lou Grant were AP voters, this exact same conflict of interest would exist.

It will be up to the AP and ESPN to judge if the threat to the poll's integrity is enough the necessitate the removal of ESPN's employees from the poll.

I have to admit it hurts a bit...we would probably be ranked close to the Top 15 if we had beaten VT.

Well, at least in the top 25. It is interesting to look at our situation compared to Vandy. They are 5-0 with an SEC schedule and (perceived better competition) and we are 4-1 in the schizo ACC with no teams in the top 15.

If we were 5-0 we would be ranked, though I don't think as high as Vandy is currently ranked. If they were 4-1 I am not sure if they would be ranked or not but maybe so.

I think we are also fighting our recent history which has been a bit schizo in the past few years before CPJ. Until we get more of a track record with CPJ it will still be a struggle for us to fight the recent historic perception of inconsistency.

Georgia Tech has still not beaten a good team. The team that beat us isn't really all that good either. We're not getting abused by the voters or by the media. Just settle down. If we beat G-W and Clumpsome and UVA we'll deserve to be ranked.

How is a North Carolina team that has 1 loss to VaTech by 3 in the top 25, while a Georgia Tech team who has the exact same record and lost to the same team with the same score isn't?

We might be ranked higher than UGA if we'd beaten VT. And we'd certainly have a crapload more press.

But the fact remains, we lost to a BAD VT TEAM and there's lots of teams who have better on the field resumes than we do. So far.

But Week 5 (6?) rankings are meaningless. If we've only got one loss in November we'll be top ten, no matter what.

They've been on TV more and their OOCs are better (early).

Again, won't matter. UNC being ranked helps us, because we can beat them later on.

It is better to finish strong than to peak in October.

A I have said before we will find out by the end of the season the VT is a very GOOD team. It is a long season and they will be the class of the ACC this year.

I think that the jury is still out on BC. If they beat VT then they will become my second favorite team in confrence though. FSU though, I would only dislike them a little less if they beat VT.

Boston College isn't a good team?

With their only wins coming over Kent St. (1-5), Central Florida (2-3), Rhode Island (2-4 with wins over Monmouth and Brown; worst team in the Colonial Athletic Association!), and a track meet at NC St. (2-4; called the worst team in the ACC by Heather Dinich, certainly no better than 10th) no, Boston College has not proven anything and I cannot call them a good team with a straight face. I challenge you to find a team in a BCS conference at this point in the season with a collection of four wins more lame than these.

Ball State - Northeastern, Navy, Akron, Indiana, Kent St, Toledo

Kansas - FIU, La Tech, Sam Houston St, Iowa St

And those are just top 25 teams...not disagreeing w/ your point, but there are still a lot of teams out there who have yet to see any competition.

I agree though that those two resumes are as bad as BC's. You have met the challenge!

My next question is: Would you say that Ball State is a particularly good team? I wouldn't. I agree that Kansas has a lot to prove and doesn't particularly deserve to be ranked, like Tech.

I also agree that we are probably more deserving than some ranked teams, especially Auburn, who I believe we could probably beat by a score of something like 20-6. Having said all that, I still don't think Georgia Tech has absolutely earned the right to be ranked and I for one hope we are still not ranked heading into the Clumpsin game. If we go on the road and beat the purple-pantsters, that will prove something, particularly if they beat Wake on Thursday.

UNC's best wins - at Rutgers and UConn, with their starting QB injured

GT's best wins - at BC and Miss State or Duke

One Loss for Both -by a FG to VPI, UNC was home, we were in Blacksburg

Why would any Tech fan argue against our deserving a ranking as much or more than the Heels?

I really fail to see what the big deal is. So the pollsters don't think we are a top 25 team. Great, I'm perfectly fine with flying under the radar all season long. In all seriousness we aren't going to play for a National Championship this year. So let's just keep going out there week in and week out and putting up impressive wins.

If people think we are losing recruits or upset over game times because we aren't ranked in the top 25 then I think you are a fool.

We need to just continue to do what we have been all year and everything will work out for us when we play in the ACCCG and go to a BCS bowl. We are 5 games into a new coaching regime and some people aren't convinced yet. That is fair. It isn't just about what has happened over the last month and a half. Analyists will come around, they are just a little slow.
