ok, for all you new guys, get your pens and paper ready to learn what Robert Lavette did for our program in the early 1980s.
In his
first game, we played #1 Alabama in Birmingham - there isn't much footage but the game is on
YouTube. We won thanks to an amazing run by Lavette late in the 4th quarter.
So think about this for a minute: In 1980, GT was the worst team in D1 and the dwags were the best in D1. In 1981, Clemson beat the dwags to be the #1 team in the nation.
So between 1980 and 1983, we had 3 national champions on our schedule. But we had Robert Lavette. Imagine trying to tackle a puff of smoke. That is what is was like trying to tackle Robert Lavette. Here is another

So for all you new guys, take note of the guy who blazed the trail. The guy who, after all the amazing backs that Dodd had, re-wrote the record books. The guy who simply could not be tackled on first contact. Check out his records and think about whose records be broke.
