Jaybo Shaw = starting QB?

Jaybo has been playing against 2nd team D in the scrimmages. Nesbitt would have lit them up if he was playing.

Jaybo is going to be an exciting backup though, and should get plenty of PT this year.

Still don't know why everyone goes on about this. The coaches have essentially said Josh is the guy, those who attend practice say Josh is the guy and he's clearly the leader of the team. Everything I've read is that Josh has picked up the offense and is doing a good job with his reads and running the plays. He's bigger, faster and has a better arm than Jaybo as well. Why the fascination with a freshman? I'm sure he's a guy who can and will play this year. But I have not read anything to make me think Josh isn't our best option.

Josh is our best option. Period. Now Jaybo can play, and he runs the option well, but he is not near where Josh is with his skill set. Josh gives us a breakout threat at QB that has to be repected, and who can pull up and toss a pass 60 yards downfield. As long as he's healthy and doesn't get into a pattern of dropping the ball, he will be our starting QB. Having said that, Jaybo will get plenty of action this fall, too, as our top option QB backup. Booker may get some PT in mop-up or if we get way behind, as he's generally the most accurate passer we have, and he can tuck and rumble a bit, too.

Again my 2 cents. I think clearly Josh is the starting QB. My whole issue with this is the guy is a true sophomore- he had a propensity to fumble and he knew he was going to run most of the time. A true sophomore isn't that much different than a true freshman- they both young as hell. It sounds like he mentally improved and as long as he stays focused he should do well.

Who's our #3 QB, is he any better than Jaybo? I wouldn't mind seeing Jaybo RS and mature more but if he is the best option at #2 I'm all for it.

This might have been in another thread but has anyone broken down the percentages of plays between Navy's #1 and #2 QB play of last year?

This is Josh's team. He has became a leader over the summer. Jaybo can run the option, he's got to work on arm strength though, there are just throws he can't make right now.
Solution: don't throw.
I'd still like to see Shaw redshirted tho.

My 2 cents on this.

Coach Johnson is unique in that if someone runs his option offense smoother - he'll start over someone who has a better arm and who is a better athlete. He has done that a few times at Navy. If Jaybo is making the reads and is smoother he'll be the starter.

I'd be shocked if Josh isn't starting against Jax State, but its not outside the realm of possibility that Nesbitt is bungling things and not performing and Jaybo comes in and takes the job during the early part of the year.

I am not ready to say Josh is bungling things, but I have seen, and agree with, several posts that Nesbitt is a terrific athlete, but not a pure QB, and may never be. Above all else, the triple option needs a talented quarterbacking quarterback.

Oh, jeez. This was the exact same thing said about Reggie ad nauseam.

So formerly all running quarterbacks here post Hamilton were compared to Joe Hamilton and now they will be compared to both Joe and Reggie?

so just where have you seen this, because this post is the first I've seen it anywhere.

I haven't seen it either, not in newspaper articles, not in quotes from coaches, and not in practice reports from posters. I've seen it from a few extremists who haven't seen a practice yet. But that's Yukon for ya.

 Citation Needed.

I'm so excited about this year because our 3rd string QB on last year's team (who is apparently listed #4QB on the depth chart this year) looked the best against Georgia and the bowl game LAST year.

So, even if we are down to our FOURTH string QB, we really shouldn't be sweating bullets.

Haven't felt this comfortable with our QB position since Lord knows when...

I too want to see JN in game pressure situations(not just Jax) before I anoint him JoeHam redux.I keep seeing that wide open WR in the VT game that he missed and those bungled snaps/handoffs from 07.
It is POSSIBLE that JN will get so erratic that Jaybo will take over to steady the ship..

Why even speculate this? Josh has done quite well this fall so far. We need his skill set in there. He's a faster and more powerful runner than Jaybe, and he's got a stronger arm. He hasn't had near the trouble holding the ball that he showed at times last fall, and he didn't throw the ball enough to get a true read on his accuracy under fire.

He was doing a good job when he got hurt. I'd like to see him back ASAP, so we can be as ready as possible on 8/28.

It's not speculation. Our resident soothsayer, AlaGold, is never wrong. NEVER. He could take a look at the height/weight/40 time of a 6 year old and peg them as a bust right there.

I think it's pretty funny that both Alagold and Yukonwreck have shown up at the exact same time to spew the same bull**** that they always do. Just in time for the season. And to pre-empt both of you, it's not a matter of what's possible, it's about the fact that the overwhelming majority - if not all - of what you post is on the least optimistic side of the ball.
