Jeff Sims

Sims was awesome last night, but I have to question Long's ability to call the right plays at significant times. Red Zone offense obviously improved since the Pitt game, but his overall play calling late in the game leaves a helluva lot to be desired, and yes, I lay that on Long, not on Key.
I layed a key long play on your mom

Sims' stats would have been better if he has gotten a block in that screen play. Perfect call, whiff block. Hell, really not even a whiff. More like the OL just didn't execute the play at all.

Probably would've been an easy win if someone put a hat on that guy. So much space in front of him, and they got great field position off of the resulting punt. Huge turning point in the game.

I am extremely impressed by Coach Key. I would have thought that the only people complaining about the last two weeks would be people who do not want to see Tech succeed. I honestly don't understand how any Tech fan could be anything but happy and impressed by what Coach Key has done since he's been our head coach.
I am particularly impressed with his vintage Trussville sleeveless sweatshirt.

Yes. I stood up at the throw and yelled "THERE IT IS!" thinking we had really caught them off guard. Jenkins (I think) had the outside block. If the OL just hits the other defender a bit, the only way it isn't a TD is for someone to outrun Hall (hell, was it was Hall or McCollum?)significantly, which ain't happening

Best game I've seen Sims plays since probably his Freshman year. He was finishing runs hard like he saw the Nesbit posts this week or something. He looked like he wanted to win.
Statistically, he had much better games against UNC, dook and UVA last year and UCF this year. Yes, he played good yesterday based on what he’s typically delivered but we need major improvement going forward to reach his potential. I think he has a chance now he doesn’t have the idiot cheering on his mistakes and applauding elite turnovers. I’m glad for him because up to 2 weeks ago he probably had no choice but to transfer to get away from him.

Lay had a really bad block there. Unfortunate because as you said that one might have gone to the house.

Sims had a really good game. always room for improvement but he can enjoy the W.
He had 3 really well timed passes- Blackburn TD, McCollum TD and he checked thru a read to catch King. There were a couple to Jenkins as well that were solid throws. Nothing flashy, just solid execution. I wish someone had timed passing data on him. I swear the last 3 games he's getting the ball out on average .2-.3 secs earlier, plus moving better in the pocket. It makes a big difference.

The early pass to King could have been a TD had the WR not slowed up. Not sure if it was the sun or what.

Key took over a boat that was riddled with holes and capsizing quickly. He had very little notice to make the boat seaworthy again and somehow managed to do enough to do so without losing a single sailor in the process -- and you're sitting here complaining about his patching technique.

Listen, I don't know if Key will be the next coach, or if he should be. But it's absurd to criticize him for not being a good coach at this point. He had a million things that needed to be fixed, and somehow managed to do enough to bring us two close wins over good teams. To expect not only that but also no mistakes from him is unreasonable.
The results have been a pleasant surprise but there are a lot of games to play still. No he wasn’t perfect and clock issues were apparent. But he got the W and that’s what mattered. It’s what matters the rest of the way also. He has 3 years of crap OL results to critique. His history prior to Tech also. What matters most are the 2 wins and remaining games.

I think his successful runs also helped soften up the D to his passing attack. Dual threats are a headache to defend.

In real time it looked like the pass was behind him, but maybe it was just the angle I had.

Bro I thought the same thing, but then the wr got overshot
He slowed down his route. Maybe he thought it was a running play. Maybe it was the sun. IDK. He definitely pulled up on the route

Red Zone offense hasn't really improved to me and the play calling down there still sucks. Main difference is we can actually make FGs now.
