Hard to work on mechanics if you are expected to be QB1 from Day 1
That’s what Monday practices are for
Besides, you can work on that over the summer too

the real villain in this?
Norvell
He cut Sims loose knowing we wanted him. Sure, he took some lumps year 1. But he outplayed clown in the long game. Also a low bar, but he cleared it with ease

With portal, if you were a starting QB on a P5 team, lost the job, went to another P5 team and won the starting job, you are not going to get a whole lot of time to prove yourself.

in the SEC though. Sims put up his numbers against West Car, UCF, etc.
Hey now, in Sims lone performance against an SEC opponent (Ole Miss), I don’t think he played all that bad.

It was abysmal.

No
He was poorly coached at Tech
His new coaching isn’t necessarily better

And you know it was the coach and not the player because how? I was never a P-nope fan; but when I see the same results under a new coaching staff, I start to question the player. Note that his last year at GT he was under Weinke; so this is really his third QB coach.

This is what concerns me.

That and the fact that Key has stated so emphatically that King is the starter and the #1 QB. Seems a bit unnecessary, especially if King looks anything like Sims did last night. God forbid.

QB's that make a lot of mental mistakes like throwing INT's often don't improve. But this staff with Weinke and Faulkner you would expect can turn it around if it's possible.

Key absolutely does not want his players to be self-conscious. That was a big problem with Jeff, and it seems to be a big problem with how the players were coached during the previous administration. I don't for a minute think that Key intends to ride King all season long if he performs poorly and Pyron is looking good in practice. It's merely that he's making it clear King is going to be given a full opportunity to run the offense and not get yanked for individual mistakes. Pyron might get a planned series or 2, or he might not play at all, but it won't be based on King missing a read or throwing an INT or something.

This is beginning to tread into :deadhorse:territory, but I don't think Sims's problems have anything to do with coaching. It doesn't take a football genius to figure out the kid has trouble refraining from making high risk passes and won't stop staring his receivers down. He probably got away with it a lot in HS and he still hasn't figured out that you can't do that at this level. But I doubt that he hasn't heard about it from every coach he's ever had including HS.

When the broadcast guys calling the game can point it out you can be sure the coaches have known about it and have been working on it with him for a long time. It looks to me like he really doesn't like to get hit. I don't blame him. I wouldn't either. But I think his fear of getting slobber knockered is what is causing him to pull the trigger on some of these high risk passes.

That's a fatal flaw for a QB. The kid has talent. Maybe he should be a wildcat only QB, defensive back or maybe a kickoff/punt return specialist or something that utilizes his speed and size but he looks to have a problem with getting hit and you just can't be like that and be a good QB.

I wonder how much of this is a product of transferring becoming too easy. It used to be that if you didn't listen to your coaching you would get benched and never play. Now you can take your ball and go else where. There are plenty of coaches that will kiss up to talent and welcome them in. Having a reputation of being uncoachable doesn't make you persona non grata anymore.

Its been a while since playing team sports in my youth but I still can't fathom how anyone would quit on their team in the middle of a season.

I don't wish anything bad on Sims. But watching that game last night... Well... same ole Sims. Glad he decided to take his craft elsewhere.

Go Jackets!! Beat Louisville!!

Didn’t wish him bad luck but soooooooo glad we won’t be watching him today, regardless of the outcome. I couldn’t survive another of his INT’s.
He quit on us. I don’t wish him bad luck but kinda felt good last night.

Collins is the real villain in this story. Promised Sims he wouldn’t bring in a transfer QB for competition because Sims was going to transfer before last year.
How do you know this?
