Clearly a gifted athlete but what worked against HS teams ain't exactly working against next-level competition. I like JG - kid has guts to go with his obvious talent. But, you can't revert to what worked in High School. Up your game and use your athleticism as a force multiplier and not as a primary option.

Good points. Due to inexperience, an 'athlete' will always revert back to what worked for them during trying times. I'd venture to say that guys like JGraham were probably the most athletic guy on his team, which equates to playing QB, or RB, especially at smaller HS. Put the ball in the hands of the athlete and let em make plays. IMO, when JGraham has an OL he can trust, his play will only get better.

Ever noticed how Matt Ryan looked like a stud in his MVP season when the same 5 offensive linemen started every game and played well, giving him plenty of time to throw and opened running lanes? But now he looks like dog crap because he gets hit on one out of every three passes he throws?

Or how Tom Brady is probably the best QB to play ever in the NFL yet he looked pedestrian AF on Sunday night against Baltimore because he was getting hit over & over & over again? Offensive line play dictates much of how the QB plays.

matt Ryan had an OC his mvp season... Tom Brady still looked pretty good against the ravens but they kept him off the field and his guys fumbled the ball away

You mean the same OC he had the prior season when they went 8-8? That same guy?
 
i am curious what everyone thought of Yates (if anyone was still watching at that point). I thought that he held the ball too long a few times and took unnecessary sacks. He did this at Milton too so it's something that he definitely needs to improve. But i thought he looked like a more polished accurate QB throwing the ball than we've seen in a long time. 2 really nice passes on the final drive that should of been caught, 1 was a clear drop on the out and the other was a really nice ball that should of been pass interference or it would of been caught.
 
I thought he did well. Not much of a drop off from what our other freshman QB James Graham had shown. He was elusive in the pocket and for the most part made accurate throws. He needs to learn to throw the ball away when he's outside of the pocket and there's no play to be had. He took some bad sacks that in essence killed his drives. I do feel like the VT defense was into the 2nd strong at that point so hard to fully gauge how he would have done earlier in the game... but heck so were we at several spots within his supporting cast (i feel like we started our 2nd/3rd string at some spots).
 
I thought he looked pretty good considering the situation. He seemed very active at the LOS calling adjustments, more so than Graham in my opinion. Who knows if the adjustments were correct, since its not like the plays were wildly successful, but he seemed confident in what he was doing, and when he could get rid of the ball it seemed to go to an appropriate target. I think if Patenaude's offense is going to be successful its going to take a very heady QB. I'm not sure Graham is that guy- but in his defense he is still wet behind the ears, not writing him off by any means.

Yates was accurate on the short passes, where Graham has been inconsistent. On the other hand Graham has been our best QB so far because of his knack for the deep ball. Yates did not throw down the field much, but did throw an impressive bomb that was dropped due to pass interference. I'd say his arm is good enough, at least. Hard to tell on his running ability, there wasn't much space for either QB.

I'd say Graham is still the #1 for now but I would not be surprised if Yates starts next year.
 
Left the game after Collins continued running out Graham in the second half when all hope was lost but did watch on TV after DVRing. Yates did fine. He got no help from the receiving corp. IMO worse game by the receivers this season. I believe he should get the start Thursday against the Wolfpack to see how well he can manage the game from the get go.
 
Start Yates. We're not going to learn anything useful from the UGA game, so better do it now.

No thoughts. Ready to see how everyone reacts to the season during the offseason.

Who is going to get into their playbooks early?
Who is going to do extra meetings with the coaches to watch film/ learn how to read defenses/grow football knowledge?
Who is going to hit the weight room for extra?

There shoupd be a decent progression between what we see now and the spring game. I'm excited to see that.
 
Good arm but looked a little slow to me. Reminded me of Charles Dudish for some reason-(sorry for the reminder).
 
Strange, I thought he showed good quickness. He was able to make some yards through small holes. I assume he doesn't have Graham's top end speed and he doesn't jump around trying to make people miss like Graham but he seemed decisive and quick to me when he ran.

Might be my old eyes--but he seemed a little slow reaching the corner. Hope we will have more evaluation info nxt. Sat.

I think he's definitely slower top end speed but he's quick and he's thicker than Graham. Probably run through more arm tackles. if he does well it's going to be because he can pass the ball though.

What's his size measurements vs Graham (too lazy to look it up).
 
In a foot race he might be slower then Graham but does he have better lateral movements is what interest me. Graham is Nathan Cottrell playing QB. He’s a straight down hill guy IMO. If he could make someone miss or break tackles Graham would be a big threat as a runner.
