Just one question in need of a yes or no answer

the last 3 years we have had the ball at the end of the game with a chance to win.
98 and 99 were incredible games. In 2000, Tech was clearly the better team. But when you look over the last 30 games - many of which were contingent on Tech's final possession, Uga has made wayyy many more game-saving plays than we have. The only explanation is better athletes who make game saving plays at the end.

I'm not going to defend the bone-headed mistakes that cost us the last three. But winning any one of them would have been considered at least mild upsets. And my point is that you can't fire a guy for not pulling an upset.

If we lose, fire him.

If we win by 1, fire him.

If we win by 50, fire him.

He was actively searching for a job at the end of last season so he has absolutely no loyalty to GT.

Please tell me why we should be loyal to him?

7-6

7-6

7-5 (including a win over Samford)

7-5

9-5 (including wins over Troy and Samford)

2-2 (including a win over Sanford)

In my book we are about one win per year shy of acceptable (and its not all about beating UGA for me)

Jimbo, where are you ????????

The decision of what to do with Chan is based on two things: first, his overall performance and second, the availability of a suitable replacement.

If he loses and we lose 4 or more I think we need to make a change. But the fact that he talked with two pro teams after last season has absolutely nothing to do with that. Find me a coach who is totally loyal to his team please and then you can talk about that as a reason for anything.

If we were to win evey game from here on out and beat USC for the national championship 50-0. I would fire him under the goal posts.

i'll let u in on a secret, in 2000 UGA had more talent than we did, ever hear of seymour and stroud? Thats just off the top of my head... If we she shouldnt expect to beat them because they have more talent, lets cancel the game

No, I don't see him being fired, and as much as I hate to say it, after our last two weeks performance, I don't see us ending above .500 for the season either.

Compared to UGA, we don't seem to recruit that well at GT even though last year was pretty fair. But compared to the national scene, we didn't amaze anybody on our recruiting then either. This year seems to be a so-so recruiting year too. CCG does seem to have the ability to do a pretty fair job with what he has to work with.

I have argued in CCG's behalf ever since he was hired. Now, for my part, it's time for CCG to show me that he is credible as a HC to be backed. Yes, I do realize this football program has other objectives than to just satisfy me, but it still takes the same amount of money for those tickets (win or lose) and I don't expect anything different.

I agree with the recruiting sentiment.... why do we not recruit as well, one reason, academic choices. Brothers and Sisters, take a look at GT football success before integration and post integration. Does anyone actually believe that we have options that appeal to the majority of the 4 and 5 star athletes? The answer is a firm HECK NO! It is simple math, when you have fewer athletes to choose from than the people you are competing with, you will not recruit the number of quality athletes on a regular basis. That, as much as many will not want to admit, leads to an average program.

With the success that the people on this board wants to see, last year's recruiting class means very little if it is not followed by something similar in 2008 and 2009. It takes depth and we do not have it.

So ask yourself if you are willing to budge and offer a couple of liberal arts majors for SA's. If the answer is no, then you need to change your expectations for football. If the answer is yes (and mine is a definite YES) then perhaps we can compete on a year to year basis with VT, UGA, Miami and FSU (and don't fool yourselves by our current streak against the U)

rome, we ranked in the top 25 last year and are in the top 25 so far this year in recruiting. How high do we need to rank before we aren't so-so to you?

56, no. This would be the second loss to ugag after they have lost a Ton of players and we have returned a ton. If we aren't winning under such a scenario, then when will we if their Fr/Sos can beat our Jr/Srs.?

NCJacket;
Not according to Rivals. I asked recently on Stingtalk which of these websites would be the most accurate in their rating. Rivals is generally accepted to be the most accurate and they have us at 41st.
I'm not trying to pick at straws or make an argument but I just don't see 41st place being all that great. How do you feel about 41st place? Take into account, our main competition is in the top 10 and we're down the line even in the ACC.

well, two points. Rivals ranked us 18 last year which was higher than Scout. Second is that all the services rerank players towards the end of their senior season so we'll see where they end up.

Didn't Chan say this was his most "experienced" team yet? Obviously by looking at the OL, experience doesn't neccessarily equal good but there is no excuse for our 6th consecutive year of a flat, limp-noodle offense, and I place the blame for that squarely on Chan "the guru" Gailey.

And regarding the UGA game, I'm not so sure that their players made game winning plays against us as much as our player (Reggie) just totally lost the game, which I also blame on Gailey. It is completely unacceptable that RB was the best QB we could get in 4 years of recruiting.

I am curious what the masses will say to this.
Bottom Line

If we lose to UGA this year, thus making Chan 0-6 against UGA, do we keep him, regardless of our record?

If we somehow get to the ACC Championship Game again I would say no. If we do not make it to the ACC CG it will depend on the overall program's position...recruiting included...at the end of the year.

This could be our second Top 20 recruiting year...every year not in Top 50 prior...so we are trending up on bringing in talent. I would hate to reset that again with an entirely new staff.

So...as I have said before...it is detrimental to the program to have any of this discussion prior to December when all results are in and the recruiting class is locked in stronger. For instance, AJ Jenkins would go to Florida with CG here...and Brandon Thompson would definitely go to Clemson at that point.

I see we have alot of lurkers coming out of the woodworks now that Tech is doing poorly. I guess your computers were just broken when Tech did well the first two games of the season. Your views mean nothing if you can only express them when times are bad. My guess is everyone shuts up if we handle Clemson soundly.

Ever read national news message boards and see all the lunatic conspiracy theorists posting? That's about how these guys are starting to sound. Seriously, if he beat USC in the MNC, you'd fire him?! Good thing you're not running the show.

To be honest, I just don't know. I find the comments about the couple of years we "should" have beat them interesting. Can we really say that Tech should have beaten UGA the year they won the SEC championship? And while UGA lost to Kentucky and Vandy last year, they also beat Auburn and VPI right around our game. Were we that much better than those two teams at the end of last year?

This post is less about Chan and more about a grim realization that we'll always have an uphill struggle against UGA with Richt at the helm. A CCG replacement might give me some hope, but Tech hasn't beaten UGA very often over the past 40 years unless UGA showed significant problems.

Now, I would have new hope if Chan's replacement could recruit lights out. No coach will be able to beat UGA consistently until our recruiting steps up quite a bit.

The answer to the question is an emphatic NO, he definitely wont make it if he loses again.
