Just one question in need of a yes or no answer

Is that the concensus in the front office or are you speculating? Serious question.

He CANT go 0-6, unless he won the ACC, which doesn't look like its gonna happen. So as of now, he has to beat UGA to be back.

Interesting, so I guess now all the chan haters will actually be pulling for us to lose to Ugay.

Nothing against you, 56, but the question itself is somewhat silly and narrow-visioned. It assumes the rest of the college football world, outside of GT, is static.

Bud Carson, who had one winning season as HC at the NATS, won 2 of his 5 games against Dooley's ugag teams.....but those two wins came against mutt teams that finished at .500 (5-5, 5-5-1). The dawgs won 36 of 55 games in those 5 seasons.

Coach Dodd lost 6 of his last 9 vs ugag, including teams that finished with records of 4-6, 6-4(2x), and 7-3-1. The 3 wins came against Griffith-coached teams that won a total of 10 games in 3 seasons.

Gailey is 0-5 vs ugag teams that have won 13,11,10,10,9 games.....53 wins in 66 games.....and have played in two Sugar Bowls.

Should Richt's job security be hinged on what he does vs UF this year? Sure, he keeps playing them close, but he has a single 1-score win (vs a 7-5 gator team) in 6 tries to date. That includes 2 losses to 8-5 teams.

Richt's job security would be in jeopardy if he lost to us for the next 3 years. Richt will be fired if he doesn't get an SEC title / BCS Win in Stafford's tenure at UGAy.

Gailey won't be gone unless he gets ass cancer or something. We can't afford to fire him, and nobody wants him. If he wasn't canned after the UGA->Wake Forest ultracombo last year and never beating UGA in his career then nothing will get him fired. Maybe an 0-for the season ...

I don't know about the masses, but my understanding from a reliable source is that the Athletic Board would say keep him. This is not to say that 4-8 with a loss would change things, but another 7-5 type season and a UGa loss will not garner a coaching change.

7-5 looks doubtful to me.

not from what I heard. 7-5 and a loss to uga and he is gone.

Dem, he not only has to beat UGA to be back, but he has to have the right amount of wins too...7-5 with a UGA win and he is probably back. 8 and uga win and he IS back....

Seriously? Is this 'reasonable speculation' or is there an (inside) official # of required wins?

Look, yes there is a target, yes it is somewhat dynamic, but bottom line there is an established expectation and it needs to be met.

Thats all I will say. Its like alot of things its not purely black and white, but...how else can you do it outside of total wins and win vs UGA?

I feel better now since according to a few posts above that discount all of our ugag wins.....then ugag surely doesn't count most of their wins vs us since we often had a mediocre record at the time! Yeah, I feel a lot better!

After last year it has become apparent that we will never win an ACC title under Gailey or beat UGA. The ACC was god aweful last year and UGA was the weakest it has been and will be for quite a while.

I hope I am wrong, but I don't see Gailey ever getting over the "hump".

There is a number plus a UGA win. That number wasn't any of the ones posted though above. We almost have to be flawless the rest of the season.

I have heard the 9 win thing. But, I have a feeling 8 and beating UGA he is back...but that is just my opinion not predicated on anything but pure speculation.

If we win all of our games and lose to uga-no,if we don't and lose to uga -yes
If he can't do it big this yr then when?certainly not next yr

Bottom line, Gailey isnt' going to be back. There is no way we win out, there is no way we even go 7-1 including a win at UGA, heck IMO there is no way right now we even beat UGA. UGA always gets better and we always get worse towards the end of the year...and just look at where we are now?

Rest assured...Gailey is gone. Lets just let this play out and hope we can salvage enough wins to continue the bowl streak...and maybe, just maybe beat UGA.

How do we overcome the financial issue? Has the Tech Fund made enough to alleviate the buyout for Gailey? OR, are we expecting to win back enough fans to make up the difference?

I am slowly coming to the realization that Gailey very well could be gone after this year. I'm certainly not going to lose any sleep over it. I'm just hoping there's not the typical 2-3 year rebuilding period. We do have the talent coming in, but will a new coach cause a dead period?

What constitutes a "dead/rebuilding period" ? Is 7-5 a rebuilding period? If not, then we didn't have one under Gailey, so I should hope that a "better" coach could at least pull the typical 7-5 season in an off year, especially w/ 2 powder puff games a year.

The financial thing is definitely an issue but if enough big donors are put off by a disappionting season, I don't see why they couldn't get together and buy him out. If it has to come out of the athletic budget then it won't happen.

Then the problem becomes how do we afford the big time coach that everyone wants? We don't have the budget to support paying an SEC level coaching staff salary. So, we'll be left with trying to find the next up and comer (perhaps a guy like Chris Peterson, whose base salary is currently on par with Gailey, maybe slightly less @ $900k/season). And, unless we can find a guy with some allegiance to GT only 2 (maybe 3) outcomes are possible - 1) he's successful and uses GT as a stepping stone and 2) he's Bill Lewis with the possibility of 3) nothing (we stay at or near the same level and continue to struggle beating UGAg thus continuing the cycle).

Z, not sure if that was directed at my comments but it's apparent very few people are considering the fact that the last few years has been one of the longest stretches of top-tier teams they've ever had. Four of their last 5 teams have finished in the top 10 of both polls.....the last time that happened was '80-'83.

Hey, I hate losing to the nad-lickers as much as anyone, but if we're going to make a personnel decision based on the outcome of that game...we better at least be bright enough to be subjective about it.

I'd hate to be shamed into deleting the EZ quote from my sig. ;-)

I would say 6 wins is a rebuilding year (since the addition of game 12). You're right; Gailey didn't have a rebuilding year, but how many other GT coaches can say that? And how many recruits can we expect to de-commit? Lastly, how many current players can we expect to transfer or simply lose heart? Again, I won't lose sleep if Gailey is canned following a less than miraculous turnaround, but can we really expect to automatically be a national contender next year with a new coach? See Miami.

We will not have a financial problem. There is already a strategic development plan for future happenings if they should have to come about. We have our arses covered.
