We can't afford to fire him. He's here for at least two more years.

He is doing some good things but it's obvious he's not a game day coach and the coordinators aren't getting it done.

I'm not a huge believer in all the BS "biggest rebuild in the history of football" but I can see where it could have been hard to get a good offensive coordinator when he was hired.

Now that we have the roster closer to where they want it, it is time to bring in the two best coordinators we can find. Let Collins be an overpriced cheerleader and let the coordinators do the coaching.

As mentioned in some other threads, it would be cheaper than firing him. A new coach would bring in new ones anyways so keep Collins and the recruiting he's building.

I have no idea who we could get or how we would pay them but that is the only way I see anything turning around anytime soon.

If TStan more or less forces him to do that, maybe he will quit.

Unless things absolutely fall apart (like 0-12) he’s here for 2 more seasons whether we like it or not. That’s 2 years and 23 more games to figure öööö out.

This is the only social media post from any of the coaches/admin since before the game.

I imagine (hope) the message was given to shut up and coach football.

Seen plenty of videos in the off season, this isn't doing much now.

That surprises me. The coach should always have confidence enough in his decision to ignore the crowd, even when the crowd is right.
I mean the assumption you’re making is that he went with what the crowd wanted rather than what his team and coaches wanted. I’d say that going for it after sending the field goal unit on is not THAT uncommon. That being said, given who CGC appears to be it’s understandable that we think/assume he was swayed by the crowd.

His uncertainty in that moment, requiring a timeout, was the issue. If he thought we needed to get the game tied at that juncture in the 3rd quarter then be decisive and get a play in. If he felt we needed to come away with points, kick. But, call for the field goal, take your second timeout of the quarter, in fact the second on that set of downs, change your mind, and go for it - that is a bad coaching sequence.

Sadly, the play should have worked. The timing between QB and WR was off. The ball is delivered late which leads the receiver OB by inches. That kind of bad timing between Yates and receivers happened all night. But, it was a great improvement over the passing game coordination between Sims and the receivers. They looked like they had not thrown together since COVID.

As PJ used to say, something like “if you start doing what the fans want, you’ll wind up sitting with them.”

It was 2nd at goal at the 2. it’s northern Illinois. 3 runs. There was like a weird delayed dive, a pass to the flats and a pass to the sideline which equals an extra defender, and the toe was out. It’s a really, really dumb coaching staff. They are in over their heads.

Look back to last year and think about how many times we saw that EXACT SAME SEQUENCE (other than CGC changing his mind). They do not have a clue.
