Keep Collins

We can't afford to fire him. He's here for at least two more years.

He is doing some good things but it's obvious he's not a game day coach and the coordinators aren't getting it done.

I'm not a huge believer in all the BS "biggest rebuild in the history of football" but I can see where it could have been hard to get a good offensive coordinator when he was hired.

Now that we have the roster closer to where they want it, it is time to bring in the two best coordinators we can find. Let Collins be an overpriced cheerleader and let the coordinators do the coaching.

As mentioned in some other threads, it would be cheaper than firing him. A new coach would bring in new ones anyways so keep Collins and the recruiting he's building.

I have no idea who we could get or how we would pay them but that is the only way I see anything turning around anytime soon.
And give up football

Losing to KSU will definitely = this year falling apart. Btw, I don't believe that will happen, but there is a chance we will win 4 or less, which will kill the hype machine. What's left after that? TStan has to find a way to hire proven OC & DC Co-ords. No small chore, but retaining CGC's recruiting results while adding coaching, could be an answer.

I also can’t see it happening (granted Collins always finds a way to shock me), but lose to KSU and it’s not the year that is lost rather the program under Collins as a whole would be dead. There is no coming back from such a defeat. Zero chance the staff and players don’t implode if they lose to KSU.

Is Tenuta still coaching? I wouldn't mind going back to an aggressive 4-3 with Phillip Wheeler/Gary Guyton types at LB. I just don't know about the 4-2-5 we seem to be running.

Tenuta would make Collins cry within the first hour.

I said on here last week our players need to come out against NIU and play like their lives depended on winning. This week, they need to play like KSU has insulted their momma AND their lives depend on winning

Need the offense *gulp* to really show up here. I have little faith in Thacker being able to stop KSU's option game. He was clueless against the Citadel and Collins overall has been mediocre to bad against it in his career.

He was able to outscore Navy twice and unable to outscore Army and the Citadel. He hasn’t really shut down an option offense.

2017 Army team was pretty good.

Our secondary will really have to pick up their game. Assignment football. If KSU catches a corner or safety cheating, it is home run time

I see the Kennesaw State game as the first win-win game since Gailey's last against Clarke County Correctional.

If they win ... well, they win.
If they lose ... I genuinely think it's likely one or both coordinators are dismissed, possibly even mid-season.

No, Collins does not need to stay. Going the Orgeron route - CEO as cheerleader, assumes the guy can be a CEO. The 404, ATL, Above the Line and all the other rah rah stuff does not qualify one to run the show. A big part of why getting beat by The Citadel and Northern Illinois is especially hard to take is all the culture talk when nothing has been earned. Tech had far superior players to NIU, but obviously NIU played harder, was better prepared, and fundamentally blocked and tackled better. This is the 3rd year and no more excuses for losing to inferior teams. In the age of the transfer portal, this will translate into an exodus with no trade off's of talent wanting to sign on. (Collin's digital team will have to work extra hard to sell the brand)

We haven’t had Wheeler/Guyton types since they were here, we haven’t had Morgan/Richard/Walker/Johnson/Robertson types on the DL since they were here, we haven’t had Burnett/Butler/Taylor/Tarrant types since they were here.

you can’t scheme around talent deficiencies on defense. The 2008 defensive roster is better than an all-star roster of 2011-2021.

Surely CPJ left a copy of the Blueprint somewhere on campus? Have we called him to ask?

For those who want to or at least agree that we have to keep Collins, who are some realistic options for offensive and defensive coordinators?

I don't follow other teams close enough to know who is available. Do we go with older but proven names or find younger and maybe less proven guys? Maybe tell the young guy he will be head coach as soon as we can afford to fire Collins?
Mid-season we are probably limited to options on the current staff. For offensive coordinator the logical choice is Coach Key. There is no logical option for defensive coordinator since none of the current defensive coaches have significant experience or any P5 experience. It looks like we chose not to invest in assistant coaches with the exception of Coach Key and I guess you get what you pay for.

After this season, the options will depend on the head coaching situation and our willingness to spend money. I would love to see Godsey as the OC but I do not know if we can pry him out of the NFL. He would certainly improve our QB performance and bring credibility with recruits.

It'd be the worst season in GT history. That's not exaggerating, either.

If that happens, we should find the cheapest coach under CPJ's lineage who would take the job and reinstall the flexbone. Heck, maybe we could convince PJ to coach over Zoom
