Keep Collins

His uncertainty in that moment, requiring a timeout, was the issue. If he thought we needed to get the game tied at that juncture in the 3rd quarter then be decisive and get a play in. If he felt we needed to come away with points, kick. But, call for the field goal, take your second timeout of the quarter, in fact the second on that set of downs, change your mind, and go for it - that is a bad coaching sequence.

Sadly, the play should have worked. The timing between QB and WR was off. The ball is delivered late which leads the receiver OB by inches. That kind of bad timing between Yates and receivers happened all night. But, it was a great improvement over the passing game coordination between Sims and the receivers. They looked like they had not thrown together since COVID.

Two timeouts inside the 5 that were maybe 2 plays apart. We could have used one of those before the 2 pt conversion.

The FG unit should have never gone out. Line up and see if you get the right look from the defense. If not, hard count them and see if you get a free play with an encroachment. If all else fails, take the delay and kick from the 8. You’ll have a better angle anyway.

If CPJ was able to turn a non-triple option roster into a pretty good football team in one year then Collins should’ve been able to put something on the field that resembles a football team by now. They were football players that Collins inherited from CPJ, not volleyball players.

Before we all start drinking the juice (Jim Jones style), let’s see how the team responds. I agree that our coaching appears to be shoddy at best, but if I am a player on that football team, I am supremely pissed off. And at the end of the day, it’s up to the players to execute (sorry to sound like CPJ), but I count at least 3 TD’s that we dropped or overthrew. Make those plays and this game looks a lot different. Collins needs help but I don’t think this team is unsalvagable. Nick Saban (and no I’m not saying Collins could even sniff his jock strap) said when he was hired at Alabama something to the effect of “I’m might get out coached but I will not be out-recruited”. This weekend will be a great opportunity for the guys to air out their frustrations and play a little bit recklessly. The one thing that I think must change immediately though is our ability to get lined up quickly on defense. Any coach with one eye and half a brain is running hurry up against us.

Luckily, KSU is an option team and unlikely to run hurry up.

Look back to last year and think about how many times we saw that EXACT SAME SEQUENCE (other than CGC changing his mind). They do not have a clue.
It looks like/feels like they're pretending to be a top tier team. They need to be focused on the fundamentals and quit trying to be sexy. It's a huge mistake. Run, run and more run and high pct passing, over the middle kind of stuff. Move the ball. Get 1st downs. Sustain drives. Eat clock. They're just flat out doing it wrong.

Good, because if the opposition changes anything, even their base formation, our defensive coaching staff will be so flummoxed that they need 15 minutes at halftime to figure out an adjustment.

Can you imagine how much CPJ would have owned this moronic coaching staff with minor adjustments to blocking assignments? Hell we couldn’t stop citadel two years ago because our defensive strategy was to step in front of blockers and draw block in the back penalties

look forward to watching these clown coaches for 2 more years

Unless things absolutely fall apart (like 0-12) he’s here for 2 more seasons whether we like it or not. That’s 2 years and 23 more games to figure öööö out.
Losing to KSU will definitely = this year falling apart. Btw, I don't believe that will happen, but there is a chance we will win 4 or less, which will kill the hype machine. What's left after that? TStan has to find a way to hire proven OC & DC Co-ords. No small chore, but retaining CGC's recruiting results while adding coaching, could be an answer.

Well, Miss St ran Collins defense in the Orange Bowl. And we saw the Collins/Thacker defense against the Citadel. Temple split with Army/Navy in 2017. Temple beat Navy by a TD in 2018.

So 2-3 against the option where he had the more talented team. 2-2 if you take the Orange Bowl out since he wasn’t running the defense himself.

Collins needs to stay. We need to evaluate coordinators and coaching staff. I don't think S&C is an issue.

I would not extend a contract until we start making true progress. Win 7, maybe get a year. Put together a string of 7-8 win seasons, extend a year. If we make the leap to the next level, 10, 11 wins, playing for ACC championships is longer

Why do people keeping saying S&C is not an issue yet we just witnessed getting our öööö pushed in by a friggin MAC team?

If no one lied about the weight changes or did the before and after greased up photos, would any of you actually be saying this? I highly doubt it.

Who is everyone's pick for a new OC/DC? I'd prefer guys with a proven track record, but it always comes back to our lack of money.

I just want to see us win more than 3 games in a season first.

We were collapsing their DL on running plays. Or pass blocking sucked because of technique, not strength. Granted, or DL did lack push, but we were pretty good at run stopping.

For those who want to or at least agree that we have to keep Collins, who are some realistic options for offensive and defensive coordinators?

I don't follow other teams close enough to know who is available. Do we go with older but proven names or find younger and maybe less proven guys? Maybe tell the young guy he will be head coach as soon as we can afford to fire Collins?

Collins should do what Dabo did early in his tenure and take a pay cut to bring in top flight coordinators!!!!! I'd suggest shave off $1.1M from his comp (still making $2M) to bring each coordinator's salary to @$1M/ea. Problem is GC WON'T do that.

Is Tenuta still coaching? I wouldn't mind going back to an aggressive 4-3 with Phillip Wheeler/Gary Guyton types at LB. I just don't know about the 4-2-5 we seem to be running.
