KSU movin on up to FBS

The academic side of SPSU was never in question. The administration was profoundly incompetent, which is why they lost their name, colors, mascot, and campus to KSU.
Wrong. There was no financial study of any sort performed by the BOR to justify the absorption of SPSU into KSU. In fact, most SPSU alums were vehemently against the merger of the two schools because of the incompetence and grift present at KSU. KSU had to run off the president of the university because of the amount of criminality going on there. Was anyone arrested? Nope. Allowed to leave and retire, despite a history of backdoor deals with vendors.

I participated in several panels at the time and bluntly asked for any studies that justify the combining of the two universities. There was none. The BOR just decided to do it with no financial study. It was "rah rah, football now! Sports!". I asked about the increased student fees SPSU students would have forced upon them......nothing.....

SPSU was never a focus of the BOR. Smaller enrollment, I believe about 5-6k, a lot of foreign students. No true interest in sporting events. As a former student and alum, I had the I.E. department head tell me in the late 80's/early 90's that eventually the BOR would give SPSU to KSU because KSU "needs the space". The writing was on the wall not many years after SPSU separated from GT.

At one point, when Life Chiropractic was having financial difficulties under Dr. Sid, the opportunity arose for the BOR to buy Life's campus, which is connected to SPSU on the south east part of campus for a deal. The BOR declined to expand SPSU.

The administration at KSU was a bunch of crooked ööööers

The merger of SPSU and KSU was driven by ONE ENTITY - UGAG. I said when they got their engineering school that Tech had no concerns but look out SPSU and Georgia Southern. The students Ugag was not getting, were going to those schools. Eliminate the competition. Several of the engineering degrees at SPSU have quietly gone away since the merger. The president at SPSU at the time was told, "If she knew what was good for her, don't fight the Uga thing." That is from the horses mouth.

There's this weird hierarchy in G5 that really shouldn't exist. CUSA somehow shuffled itself all the way to the bottom.
Yeah, I think conference expansion particularly with the ACC raiding the BigEast twice is largely to blame for this. Each round of expansion was like musical chairs with the BigEast morphing into the AAC which in many ways is like the old Conference USA, while the current Conference USA is like the old Sunbelt.

Whatever. Nevermind that SPSU screwed the pooch in a major, major way when it came to Federal Financial Aid management. Epic financial mistakes similar to GA Perimeter College. BOR would not tolerate it any further. Enjoy that SPSU vanity plate.

This seems really stupid. They’re gonna have to expand their stadium big-time. Fifth-Third only seats 8k.

CUSA also accepted Sam Houston State, with a 13k stadium.

I don't know where the hell you are getting your false information, but that is exactly what it is.

There was nothing there. Nothing. The merger was the UGAg dominated BOR just merging SPSU into a corrupt university because they could.

Whatever lets you sleep easier.

Whatever lets you sleep easier.
I went to SPSU and financially supported the university until the merger, when I pulled my annual gift. My mother worked as the receptionist to the CS department for about two decades and retired a few years after the merger. If it makes you feel better to make öööö up about the merger then I hope it helps you sleep well. I do know you are either misremembering something, were told a falsehood, or are just plain lying. Pick one.

You can always file an open records request to the USG. Nuff said.

Why? I know exactly what happened. I was there.
Were you working for the USG at the time? Ah, no. Were you part of the merger process at that level? Ah, no.

Look, I'm sure you're confident in what you remember and I agree that the whole thing could have been handled better, especially from the alumni perspective. I also think you don't know the entire story from the USG perspective.

No one cares about any of these schools. SPSU refugees should be required to sign a statement renouncing any association with said school. It's entire existence was clearly mistake.

Georgia Tech is the only thing that matters now.

You are still 100%, absolutely incorrect as to why SPSU was merged with KSU.

The USG had zero appetite for the serious financial mismanagement going on at SPSU. Ask for the records, if you don't believe me. KSU was the logical school to merge with.

Dude, you're wrong. You can double down, triple down, quadruple down in being wrong, if you want, but it still isn't gonna make you right.

I was there. I was involved in SPSU. I gave a yearly stipend to SPSU. My mother worked there for almost two decades. I have no idea what you think you remember, or if you just like flat out lying.

There was zero financial impetus for merging the schools. There was no fraud or large scale mismanagement at SPSU. The ONLY fraud was the payola scandal over food service at KSU that should have seen people jailed, but they were allowed to quietly leave

Well, I worked at the USG at the time. I know what I know.

Wasn't Vince Dooley involved in endorsing the KSU athletics program? The same guy that used illiterate students to play on his football teams?
