We can only judge what’s going on now, so i disagree with you that’s its too premature to say something is better. At no point in recruiting in the past 11yrs, i believe we’ve been in the top 25 at any point. Also, hearing recruits, who have been on campus prior and coming back, saying “The environment is better! All the coaches are interacting with us instead of just passing by without speaking”. Recruiting is the lifeblood of a program. The “school doesn’t recruit itself.” So to see the early commits we have with factory level offers in the spring is way ahead of schedule for us.

The branding and transparency of the program is a 1000x better. You actually see the gains being made in the offseason and why there is a buzz around the program. We’re are not just more welcoming to recruits and former players, we are now more welcoming to the casual fan and the rest of the CFB.

I agree the branding is objectively better, that is true. The recruiting is also objectively better but I have my reservations until I've seen that these higher-ranked guys can actually stay eligible. Not trying to be a downer, I'm just still in a wait and see mode. Can't fuckin wait for the season to start. As always.

It's the implications that we've been a bottom-feeder that bothers me. That highly ranked guard that's considering us said something like, "people know Georgia Tech's not a pushover anymore". I know he's just some kid, but we were rarely a "pushover" over the past 11 years and nobody knows if we will be this year or not.

I personally think the “pushover” comments more is about off the field than on the field

No matter the wins, people viewed the option as inferior or as gimmick which is stupid. People would rather lose pretty in the spread than embracing the option. Some of this could’ve been mitigated if we stuck with the pistol in 2012 and had the tackles in 2pts stance once in awhile, but the past is the past

We can always pull out the record book if we really want to prove what we’ve done over the past 11 years but why worry about it? If kids and HS coaches think we’re suddenly more exciting and trending positively just enjoy it. People will forget most of what you say but they remember 100% of how you make them feel. It’s they same in recruiting or building a brand.

Perception is reality.
 
I think he meant it literally. Our players were literally pushed over on both sides of the ball.

It bothers me how all these articles about the way the new regime are doing things inevitably always imply this new way is clearly the right way and superior to CPJ's way. We will see. I am enthusiastic and excited about the team, just like every season, but I feel like all these implications of, "thank God we're doing things this way now, this is so much better than the old way" are extremely premature. And I'm not even really talking about the scheme, moreso just all these pieces on how CGC runs his program, recruits, and runs practices.

I'm also tempering my excitement. Too often everyone gets carried away over the shiny new object. There is a long history on this board of noting many other coaches who recruit great talent and can't do much with it. I'm optimistic about the new regime, but let's give it a few years to see how things turn out on the field.
 
Key said he didn’t come here to play small ball. Like it or not, the last 4 years haven’t been very good and their results on most of our livers was worse. Mods even got rid of the fire CPJ perma-ban. These guys really do want to get to an elite level. Whether they will or not is to be seen, but they’re selling recruits on getting there.

They've sold me too. So far everything that's happening feels like it could not have happened more ideally. It's difficult to overstate how big a favor CPJ did for us by retiring on his own power and by timing it when he did. Then, it's difficult to overstate how great a job the new staff have done so far energizing the program. Let us hope it'll be difficult to overstate by December how great they've done in transitioning the team to the new looks.

I mean, you can do that. But ultimately, wouldn't it be more fun to buy in 100 percent now and enjoy it? I mean, if this doesn't work out, I don't see how tempering my excitement in the beginning will make me feel better. Nah, gimme the juice.
