I remember it. I was watching on TV. What pissed me off and broke my heart was it was in our stadium!Do you remember “the night the chain broke”?

Mover, although it wasn't down to one play, another day that almost made history was Charles Dudish, who took Tech to the edge of an upset with Southern Cal. I couldn't attend the game but was listening to Al Ciraldo, who got more excited in the 2nd half when we were still close.I would have to add 1983 to the list. If John Dewberry throws the ball two yards further down our sideline toward the end of the game we beat the mutts that year as well. Not his fault, but he needed just a bit more juice on the throw.

Yes I do, I think that was the 1967 game, another time we got hosed. I’m convinced 1967 would have been an outstanding year if Dodd had stayed.Do you remember “the night the chain broke”?

That was the Dude's best game in his short career. We were up 18-15 with 5 minutes left in the game. QB Jimmy Jones had been harassed all day by Perdoni & Co...... I think even DT Wayne Laircey had an INT.... but Jones finally got enough time to heave one about 55 yards to Sam Dickerson to make the score 18-22. On the ensuing KO, a trick play was botched & fumbled, leading to future Raider RB Clarence Davis making a short run IIRC on the next play to make it 18-29. Theron Sapp aka. the "Drought Breaker" is one of three bulldogs honored with the retirement of their jersey numbers. It must have been a really big deal to UGA alumni and fans of that generation to retire his jersey because otherwise he was an ordinary "plugging fullback" as Dodd said but on that day Dodd asserted in his biography Theron was great. Sinkwich and Hershel were self explanatory being Heisman winners and among the very best of their day.You guys still own the longest streak. Eight straight in the fifties. Twice in this generation UGA has won 7, and right on the verge of #8, the Jackets have pulled it out and Sisyphus is at the bottom of the mountain again.
First time was 1998, a decent Georgia team but Joe Hamilton led a late drive in Athens and GT hit the game-winning field goal, then won the next two as well—after which UGA won another 7, bringing us to 2008. DEFINITELY Georgia was going to win in 2008. Book it. Mark it down. Preseason #1 rank, AND Tech had a new coach who was trying to force Chan Gailey's roster into a new offense. We chuckled. No WAY Georgia loses in 2008.
Every time that happens, it begins the cycle again. At LEAST eight years before we get another shot at it. I'm getting old . . . So ya see, there are still some nice things you can have.
On the game winning drive IIRC in the 3rd quarter, it started about midfield after Sapp recovered a GT fumble. Sapp carried the ball something like 9 out of 10 or 11 plays & scored on a 4th & 1.Theron Sapp aka. the "Drought Breaker" is one of three bulldogs honored with the retirement of their jersey numbers. Hardly mentioned is the complete a$$ Whipping put on them in 1962. I always believed the 1962 team was about 2 terrible plays from being undefeated, and also broke the Bama winning streak. Lothridge, Martin, Guthrie, Stallings, Watson, Auer, etc….lot of talentI remember it. I was watching on TV. What pissed me off and broke my heart was it was in our stadium!
What did that long winded diatribe have to do with us winning games in this Series vs this opponent?I had a band instructor in HS who tutored guys on the UGA bb and fb teams tell me they were borderline neanderthals (circa 2006). Around 2009, I read an article talking about the discrepancies between average student incoming sat scores and those for football teams. Almost the entire sec was at the bottom of the list right at the minimums - I think UF had the largest discrepancy (I grew up a gator so that hurt). GT was the only football team in the country whose players averaged over 1000/1600.
long winded diatribe
Yes, I do find it ironic, but my words are used judiciously to accurately and completely tell both sides of the story for the sake of Integrity and Fairness.Did anyone else find this ironic?
