Looks like Monken is not going to be our next Coach

Hiring a former Tech guy makes a lot of sense - for Tech. We’re just...different.

In the end, it’s gonna come down to recruiting, how well he connects with kids and parents, and how he builds out that group. He’s unproven, but so was Chan. Say what you will about Gailey, but he ended up being very good in that dept.

The one piece of the puzzle that isnt adding up for me is TStan said the new coach had to be innovative. That seems like an odd word to use for Whisenhunt (or Elliot fwiw).

Thats a Monken or Bohannon or maybe Satterfield word.

Unless he is already anticipating that will be the Whisenhunt criticism so he is making a salesman play that Ken is innovative.

My biggest concern with Whisenhunt is how flexible and innovative he's willing to be offensively. If he has a Friedgen approach, where he's willing to continuously adapt, he can be successful. If he's dead set on carrying over a straight pro style offense, it could be a disaster.

I'd prefer we opt for a career college coach.
Could???

My biggest concern with him is that the extent of his college coaching experience as an assistant at Vandy for 2 years when I was still in college. I'm 42 now... They've invented whole new means of communication since he's been involved with coaching and recruiting kids.

AFTER he was forced to hire a true R/C.

Our past history of hiring Tech guys as HC has been pretty stellar if I recall. Fulcher, Pepper, and Curry all were mediocre to average.

I dont think anyone wouldnt count coaching Tech.

There should be a reasonable concern about culture shock for people who coached at a factory where the S in SA literally doesnt exist.

I’ll wait until year three to make an opinion. I’ve seen nobody’s win and the next hot coach get canned.

Good point. And good that nothing about college football and coaching it has changed in the last 30 years.

I should hope so since that's about how long it's been since Whisenhunt has been on campus in any official capacity.

I'm not rich and I don't run the show – but I think you'd be surprised how complicated and political a process it is. TStan is running the show. The Athletic Board and Bud and lots of people have input, obvs. But there's not some cabal of Dodd players hunched over their marionette strings somewhere.
Can you let me hold about fiddy?
