Let's be honest. ALL sports that you are not playing in is entertainment. Always has been. There was very low attendance today even from the students.
Why?
Would you pay $$ to see a movie you know would be bad? Complete with snacks and drinks? (You know how expensive that is.) NO.
We are fielding a bad product on Saturdays. People will not pay to go see something bad.
How bad is it? When you see students, including some lettermen (male and female) leaving the game early from the student section, you know it is bad. When you see how empty the stands are, you know it is bad. (Was there even anybody in Upper North?)
Until we can field a good (doesn't have to be great) product with good coaching (even I know you don't call a timeout to punt) we will continue to lose $$ and have bad attendance. Listen to the non-attendance of students. They are not dumb. They will not watch a bad product.

From my seats in lower east, the west was filled in nicely, the student section filled in late, not sure about the east since I can’t see my own stands. Upper north was normal attendance

There was a surprisingly large number of people in upper north today. If you were at the game, you’d know that.

JRjr
From the upper east, it looked like there were a good many more in the lower west that for the previous games, but the upper west and the upper east were both bad.

Sitting just above the student section .. i can attest they are not disinterested. Always seem to show up in good numbers and have fun. They are not part of the problem. Problem is we suck right now. We need to not suck.

Either way, I will be there next week.

I remind myself it's a tradition that makes memories. .. going to the games, taking my girls to tha games. Win or lose it's still GT.

What you saw today is our fanbase. Everyone acting like we have thousands of fans just sitting at home is laughable. Fans do not equal alum. Yes, we have thousands upon thousands of alum sitting at home who are not fans. We discussed this before but when you become an international school you lose diehards. And GT has lost generational diehards and entire GT families due to admissions. We are seeing the result of the past 30 years. I’m fully expect that I will see the day where our administration will vote to remove the word “Georgia” from our name.

To be fair, that would be a great way to instill THWG culture.

I don’t 100% agree with this. I grew up a sidewalk fan (no idea how), and until I moved out of Georgia in 2005, I attended 2 games a year. Growing up in the 80’s-90’s in Gwinnett County there were more sidewalk GT fans I went to school with than you think mainly due to hoops under Bobby. Problem is, the school (GT) itself doesn’t market sports well at all to kids. Even in the 90’s-early 2000’s the other school does a better job marketing themselves to all types of fans. So fast forward to now, the product overall on the field and on the court have been bad for 7 years. You’re not going to build any kind of base’ with a poor product while programs around you west, north, and east are winning titles. And truthfully in a city / metro area the size of Atlanta, there is absolutely no excuse for under 40k a game.

Not that it’s the same in many ways, but South Carolina has been pretty much hot garbage for 90% of their history, and sell out pretty much every game.

This was one of the better attended games we have had in the last 2 seasons, ESPECIALLY for a nooner. I was pleasantly surprised from my vantage point in the upper north. I commented several times that this was great for a 12:00 game and was something we could build off of if we could pull off the win. Anyone bitching about today's attendance might not have been around for the last few years very much. Bitch about the game, yes. That said I look forward to being embarrassed next Saturday.

upper north as well .. it was a good crowd. agreed.

oh we are going to win next week. no doubt. we are bi-polar. it's to the point i hope we lose to Syracuse the week before UGA.

Atta boy. This is the way. I’m in the same camp

It’s easy to bitch about the attendance sitting at home watching on tv. There were a lot more people than we, the people who go to games, anticipated. Win more games and people will come back. Last P5 win at home was Duke in October 8, 2022. Wtf is the point of bitching about attendance when we’re not winning games at BDS?

I kept telling my cousin that it was the closest thing to a real Tech game of old that so had seen in awhile. Before the fourth quarter I was having a great time.

my oldest been going to games in Upper North with me since she was about 3. We are two seasons away from potentially seeing her in the student section from our seats in Upper North. She's applying next Fall.
Don't tell them she's a legacy or she'll get rejected.
