Low Attendance

It’s not the schedule, nor whether or not GT plays 1 game at MBS that’s the problem. Losing 1 game a year at BDS in front of 35-40k isn’t what you’re truly mad about. Let’s be honest here….You would not care one bit if GT was 5-2 right now.
None of this is the fault of attendance. Attendance is the result of an admin that can’t or won’t do what it takes to make us competitive.

You don’t have to convince me of that. But you’ll have the academic elitists on here with their head in the sand saying GT the school can’t do anything to fix that by throwing BS mythical roadblocks / excuses like the GA BOR and the state of Georgia itself as reasons.

The hardy few who made the trek yesterday showed up for the ööööing funeral. Able to get excited in spurts but low key knew what was coming all along and never sustained any real home field advantage. You could see it in everyone’s face and feel it in the crowd. We all showed up to lose. We missed that XP and everyone was like ‘there it is’. That’s what I was waiting for. I knew it. That’s what we get for trotting out an irrelevant program in front of a disinterested school for years and years on end. Haven’t won two in a row but one time in 5 years. The die hards are dying hard and the cavalry is not coming.

Guess what? This is who we really are. Who are we kidding? We have regressed to the mean. The few great years under CPJ and CGOL were freakish outliers of the last 50 years and the 90 natty was the ultimate flash in the pan that will never be seen again. Hell, many of those ‘great’ years would only be good years v great for any real power. Wow! You actually beat your in-state rival!? Is this real life? Great success! 10-32 in my lifetime. Ten and thirty two. Ten. But muh 1950s and Bobby Dodd and the SEC and then just go kill yourself. Irrelevant.

And anyone trying to put a positive spin on a paltry crowd on a beautiful day in late October in a city of 6 million can deep throat a cactus. Wake up. We suck now and we will always suck saving a few years here and there where we shock the world and allow ourselves to hope. For whatever reason, we all fancy ourselves as some dormant power that’s just not getting the breaks because of x, y, z flavors of ‘the man’ but we are flat out not. We are just like every forever middling team that will never do what it takes to get on the national stage. Hell maybe we even CANT, right? Everyone wants to win so like…Why doesn’t everyone just win? Can’t. Spend money, hire Deion, pet the unicorn. Some schools just can’t. We don’t have it because we just don’t have it. Chicken and egg. In the infamous words of a high school band teacher I once knew when he was confronted with mediocracy, ‘Well, someone has to sweep the streets’. That’s us. We forever sweep the streets of college football. We are Will Hunting.

It’s sad and telling that we are re-teaching the crowd the East-West Yellow Jacket chant. I do appreciate the effort because I remember that it was a cool thing we did before the clown regime seemingly did away with it but then in typical ‘screw it up’ fashion we just do it once and then step on it with the ööööing PA. And just keep the PA going real loud on 3rd and 4th downs way into the play clock to keep the crowd totally out of it because that’s the best we can do for stadium atmosphere. The obvious preference of the powers that be is clearly that BDS is some kind of ööööing PA-driven dance club. Plz play some more Bon Jovi songs!!1!!1. Maybe more songs about whores and drugs that have to be heavily edited to even be played for the general public.

Glad as I am that the band finally stopped playing Jeezy 14 years later, the barrage of commercials driving the need to fill every second with some bullshit pop/rap bullshit or other fake ass guess who/DEI/stupid game filler is nauseating and has made the band 2nd class citizens. Sidelining one of the beautiful things about the college game. Cool. Yeah yeah. Not really Tech’s fault, blame the faceless TV gods, gotta fill the time and pacify the herd, but it flat SUCKS to go to a game anymore. Show up for a football game only to get held hostage listening to fake ass music drinking $10 beers while those that stay at home just get blasted with moar ads for the dick pills. Keep the clock running more to shorten the game because we’re all too broke to pay attention and then allow 5 plays in a row, TV timeout. Kickoff, TV timeout after touchdown TV timeout. Penalty, TV timeout. Runs out of bounds. TV timeout. Boo Paul Hewitt one last time yesterday, TV timeout.

It’s no wonder attendance is piss poor. It’s a öööö experience coupled with a öööö product.

And yes. I will tailgate all day and be at the UNC game because I am a rihtard who still doesn’t know any better

Sitting just above the student section .. i can attest they are not disinterested. Always seem to show up in good numbers and have fun. They are not part of the problem. Problem is we suck right now. We need to not suck.

Either way, I will be there next week.

I remind myself it's a tradition that makes memories. .. going to the games, taking my girls to tha games. Win or lose it's still GT.

It’s shocking that any students have any remaining interest, considering the rising seniors have only seen us win like 12 games in their entire college career.

in all honesty, the stadium speakers… how do we formally request to both turn the volume down and stop playing ööööty music (or any music at all for that matter). Totally agree that college bands are a huge part of the atmosphere and we totally öööö on ours.

Class of 83: 12-30-2
Throw in a 3-8 season for grad school: 15-38-2

Wonder if I'll live long enough to see a third period like this?

all hope is not lost. first day of AP Physics this year our daughters teacher asked how many people wanted to go to GT. all 12-13 raised their hands. most of that group also in AP Calc.

even since freshmen year we could tell that the HS STEM teachers were making it pretty damn clear that GT was the destination if you were interested in engineering, etc.

I’ve got plenty of friends, classmates, fraternity brothers who were in-state just like me. Do any of them come to games? No, it’s pulling teeth to try to rally the troops, even free tickets do nothing. Why? Because we haven’t been worth watching since (honestly) about 2014.

I appreciate your optimism though, here’s to hoping.

well yeah that's the flip side .. ive had season tix since graduation in 97'. there were 5-6 other guys that i bought tickets/sat with those first few years. im the only one left. but most of those guys fell off before or during CPJ era. they just get busy with other things, or move, not a priority.

TL;DR. I showed up to win. I expected to win over a BC team that had struggled against everybody. We played an entertaining game, what you’d expect between two mediocre teams, for 3 quarters. We just let go of the rope in the 4th quarter, which is unfortunate, especially after all the talk about playing 60 minutes after the Miami game.

I didn’t expect to score fewer points than anybody against them, or to give up the most they’ve scored. Given their schedule, that’s a problem.

I’m convinced that we’re kind of soft and lack meanness. Watching BC play to the edge of the rules and push us around while we waved our “that’s not fair” hands like soccer players convinced me of that.

That's what happens when parents and HS teachers give these kids big heads by giving them all A's and öööö. Teacher needs to march in there Monday morning and give them a ball busting test that only the smartest couple of kids can pass. She needs to let the little pissants know there's no way most of them are ever going to get admitted to GT, they'll have to go elsewhere to become Engineers. The nerve of these kids to think they even have a chance.

I think we had a decent crowd last Sat considering our losing/inconsistent ways. I figured there would be an uptick due to the Miami win. From my lower west vantage point, the lower East stands were full (including the chair backs) and even upper East filled in pretty well in the center. We had a good crowd in lower west until we went down by 2 TDs with just at 5min left. Until we win more than a few games in a row we’re going to be plagued with spotty attendance. One thing we’ve proven is that we’re consistently inconsistent on the field.

Once the students FINALLY got there, the lower north looked pretty good, but not great, but the upper north did not.

I was actually pretty happy at the fact that they left the canned music off for a long time yesterday and the band was allowed to play whenever they wanted. It was a really big improvement.

But when they played it, it was loud, fo sho.

The lower east was pretty well occupied until BC started ööööing our sisters in the fourth quarter. Got empty pretty fast.

I hear you. The ‘non Greek’ students are always there early. The frat and sororities are always fashionably late. I think that’s always happened. Even in my day (early-mid 90s). Lol. Me and the guys from my dorm were always there at least 1/2 hour early. Even during the 1-10 season.

When I was an undergrad the frats always arrived early. It was always first come, first serve, and we all wanted a good seat.
