Well I don't see whats so offbase with this article. I am really nervous about this game because LSU could stuff the run and will probably control the line of scrimmage when we are on O. That means not much for Dwyer and that Josh will have to be sharp on the read and pitch or we will be in for a long night. It will take another error free game (read no turnovers) to win.

Hopefully our defense will keep their subpar O under control.

I think PJ talking about the run and shoot plays is recognition of the reality of the above. I hope we have some passing game because I am afraid we are going to need it.

To be honest, all i heard was how good Miami, FSU, and UGA were against the run and look what we did to them. This offense isn't good because they run in a traditional sense, were the big guys win a la Wisconson, but instead, we are successful because we are fast and can win one on one battles. Being good at stopping one guy form running doesn't equate to handling the triple option. The only way to tell who can do well against them is to play it. The only way to tell who will win the game is to play it. Bring 'em on is what I say.

Well, he clearly has no idea that we actually do pass and when we do it's typically downfield or over the top in his vernacular. Also being good against the run doesn't necessarily translate to stopping our option game. ugag, Miss St, Miami, etc., are also good against the run.

How a team plays against the run is no indication as to how they play against the CPJ option.

So basically he has no clue.

He demonstrated this amply when he said stte "thankfully we are not facing the spread".

We use a spread formation (i.e. spreading the defense widthwise across the field) like Texas Tech. What we do after that is different from Texas Tech, however. Does not mean we cannot damage our opponents equally bad, however. Only difference is that our point score will probably be lower (as will our opponents), simply because of clock rules differences in the passing and the running games.

Btw, I am very curious to see how Texas Tech's offense will perform against Ole Miss. I dont think they will be as successful (Oklahoma destroyed them), but I cannot be sure.

I guess this explains the rumors than CPJ is planning some run and shoot plays specifically for this game.

I don't think there's anything wrong about the article. You can call it whatever you want, but Texas Tech's offense this season and our offense this season have been polar opposites, even if they are both the spread. Yes, defending the triple option is completely different than defending a normal running attack, but would you rather be up against something you know you can't defend(LSU against TT's pass attack) or something else(our option attack)?

Hopefully we put in some of the run 'n' shoot, but no matter how much we put in we're not going to have a passing attack even close to TT's because that's just not who we are, especially not this season.

Both UGA and Miami had Top 20 ranked rushing defenses prior to playing us....and we sent them down to Top 60 status afterward!

LSU is 14th...and should expect the same.

I'm all for adding wrinkles and what not but I hope we don't vary too far from what allowed us to win 9 games up to this point.

Well that's a pretty strong statement and I know you don't make those types of statements lightly. Here's to you being right on the money!

for the sake of simplicity and limiting turnovers, I hope that CPJ's comments about inserting some of the run and shoot package is just a ploy to throw of LSU's prep b/c I would rather go w/ what got us here and not risk more turnovers by having to learn something new when they are still trying to learn the trip option to where it needs to be. Turnovers are the key. In every game we've lost, we've given up way too many unforced turnovers and I'd rather KISS than try and insert too many last minute packages that increase the chances for turnovers.

To further comment on my reply, I'm all about some run and shoot in 2009. Imagine trying to stop both the run game w/ Dwyer and Jones and contain Bey Bey and the rocket arm of Nesbitt. The kid can flat out throw from what I've heard and seen in practice. Heck, he was a top 10 QB recruit coming out of HS as a great passer, so he isn't a stranger to airing it out. He has a strong, accurate arm w/ great velocity and we have two solid wide outs just eager for the run-shoot package to be inserted. Just not this year for this particular game unless we can do it w/out confusion and turnovers. Let Jones and Dwyer do the damage. If LSU stuff the run inside, then let Jones take it outside. And if that doesn't work, let Nesbitt work his magic.
