Marcus Wright (parade all american)

How in the world does the Texas 5-A Offensive POY have 3,000+ yds, make Parade All-America team and only be a 3 Star? This proves to me that prospect rankings on these websites do not measure talent but how the player measures up in a traditional Pro offense.

Good question. Exciting to see Marcus get PAA, that is impressive, can't wait to see him break into the open field for CPJ.

He's short and committed to Tulsa early.

Like I said... It proves that the recruiting services base it more so on how that player fits into a traditional pro set rather than the level of talent that player has. If you are smart and can just flat out play, you'll find your way.

Either way, GT got this kid and he will be a stud IMO. Talent is talent and he seems smart and level-headed. Ought to work out well for the Jackets and CPJ.

Its just ridiculous and in a sense discredits the ability these services actually have to properly rank football players going into COLLEGE. All of these guys are not gonna be NFL talents. These recruits should be ranked on their ability to play, NOT on their potential to go pro.

This has nothing to do with Marcus Wright...because I am excited about him.

....but the Parade folks do not know any more or less than Scout, Rivals, Lemmming, Wallace, Emfinger, etc. They are all just guessing.

Remember USAToday All-American kicker Kai Cornwell who came to us in the late 90's under O'Leary? How many FG's did he kick for us? :fingersx:

Just try not to get too high or too low on this stuff...look for the good but do not go overboard...and make your own evaluations based on video, measurables, etc. However...never try to make since of the newspapers and services...use them for data and video only.

Parade All American has a clue what they are doing. Look at their players, they generally get it right. This is a very nice accolade for young Mr. Wright; congrats.

My point was that this kid is a good football player and he's proven it. I've watched his videos and have seen it. I was pointing out that people put too much stock in the recruiting gurus and not in the accomplishments of the player. I've never been one to get worked up over stars. I just wanted to make clear that if we get caught up in the number of stars they put beside a kid's name, we are doing ourselves and the player a disservice. Sorry if that was taken the wrong way. I think Marcus Wright is a stud and can't wait to see him play.

Again...I was not taking anything from Marcus. I was speaking to everyone wondering about star rankings and why some are different.

All of the All-American lists are filled with great players...good grief...you are picking 22-44 kids out of 2,000 to 2,500 that will sign D1 scholarships.

It's just extremely difficult to predict just how well or how quickly high school football players are going to pan out, with the exception of the maybe five or six that are head and shoulders above the rest. As an example, below are 9 of the 16 Parade All American QB's & RB's from 2006. Some have already changed schools, some have injuries and some didn't cut it, but the point is simply how tough it is to anticipate their eventual contributions.

Jevan Snead
Jake Locker
Pat Devlin
Demetrius Jones
Carlos Brown
C.J. Gable
James Montgomery
Vondrell McGee
Toby Gerhart

Just found the BEST write-up on MARCUS WRIGHT I've seen yet.

Its in the San Antonio Express-news, printed before his senior season, comparing him with Devin Thomas who signed with Ole Miss.

Don't know how to do the URL thing.....or I'd do it!

Go to Google...hit Marcus Wright, and look for MySA.com. You'll find it.

LOTS OF GOOD STUFF IN THIS ONE.

Great thing is all Wright really has to do is fit in as a cog in the machine at GT. His strengths match the slotback position's strengths perfectly, so he should be a great addition.

Anything else like returning kicks is bonus.

Gone are the days when our offense relies exclusively on one back like we did T. Choice this past year.

Only other existing slotbacks are the Jamal & Tyler Evans, and Roddy Jones. Possibly Earls gets some looks, and Dwyer's got the speed to play the position as well if he doesn't win the B-back spot.

Peeples & Wright had best be ready!

True but there is a simple equation that will reveal the accuracy of a recruit's rating/ranking given by any given media outlet or scouting service:

A = Recruit is committed to Tech (True or False)
B = Recruit is highly rated (True or False)

If A and B are equal (both TRUE or both FALSE) then the rating/assessment of the recruit is, in fact, correct.

If A and B are not equal, the writer or scout is a knucklehead just trying to pander to some football factory's fan base to sell subscriptions and, in fact, knows nothing of football.

Glad I was able to clear that up.
