Maryland

Ralph wanted to leave his alma mater last year for GT. He has lost too much support there and doesn't feel welcomed. Ralph is a great coach but needs a new setting and I believe he understands that. Its tough being some where when you don't feel like your wanted anymore alma mater or not.
Was he looking to interview for the HC job after Gailey was let go, or was he wanting to replace 3-and-out Nix before Gailey was out? I think a Gailey/Fridge/Tenuta combo would have been pretty good. But I'm fairly pleased with everything that ended up happening, save for the new uniforms.

HC job

Ralph pretty much just doesn't want to be there anymore. After this season he will get back to being a great OC somewhere.

I'm just scared that he will go to Miami. That'd be bad for us. Here's hoping he goes to UCF - they could use someone of his talent.

No Lakeland is the arm pit of Florida.

bsakoff....why the negativity towards Lakeland. I spent five years there coaching at Bartow 2 years and Lakeland High for 3.

Was a neat place to live except the baggage of an ex wife.

Great football both high school and college.

Tell me what I am missing.

I agree that Lakeland isn't a bad place to live and it has much more ammenities than Chiefland. Do you still coach mover2?

George may make room for his donut eating buddy; but UCF already has a good OC, so personally I don't see that position opening up right away.

NO sir. I got out 15 years ago and decided to pursue my graduate work in educational leadership. Been an administrator for 13 years now.

Similar to coaching in way I suppose.

BUT, my son-in-law is coaching at Chiefland High and doing a great job. They have opened up the year with 2 straight wins. Very proud of him.

That's interesting. He had a good run - better than Maryland deserves.
He's in trouble because after his first 3 years when they went 31-8, he's gone 5-6, 5-6, 9-4 and 6-7 and has now beaten a D1AA team 14-7 and lost to MTSU 24-14. Tech fans would be killing a coach with that track record.

To be blunt, Ralph cannot recruit. If a coach goes 31-8 in his first few years, he should start getting pretty good classes.

Bingo. If you remember while he was at GT, he refused to be a part of recruiting. He hated it. This was why he never got considered for a HC job.

He contacted GT. The way he wanted to go about it lead to no mutual interest from our side.
That's really interesting to hear about. Thanks for the info. I wonder if he likes Tech better then anywhere else, or if he felt this was best place to land.

He probably just reads our message boards and saw all the comments over the years about people wanting him instead of Chan.

Wonder why? You don't suppose it's because he'd have to pound the pavement a bit to go meet with the kids? All that walking is hard work!

I think he should have also stayed more involved on the offensive side of the ball. He called the plays and was very involved with the quarter backs those first years.

He also had NFL caliber quarterback (Shaun Hill) that could run his offense.

Pretty sure he called the plays last year though.
