Matt Winkeljohn on Threet

No need to get upset because Treet transferred. 33jacket got it right! Tech gets another schollie to give. Bond gets the kind of QB (Nesbitt) he likes, plus the splendid recurit of 2008. Treet gets to go home.

Win - Win.
also, didn't he play a major role in getting some of our other top guys in last year (along with the "ambassador")?

How is this win win. A great point that was posted on another site is that we gave Threet the majority of the #2 snaps in spring practice. Imagine now if we could have given those snaps to Booker. This team is now less prepared and Threet is more prepared. Yeah we get Nesbitt but we had him already and we already had a verbal from Renfree. So tell me how is it that GT football is better?

I don't think it's a win-win, but I also don't think it's worth wishing the worst for Threet either.

Did anybody ever tell you that they wished that you failed all of your classes when you changed your major? I realize it's not the same situation, but I hope you see my point. The bottom line is that it's worth the hurt/frustration now for Threet to go ahead and transfer in order not to waste his or anybody else's time at the AA. I'm not glad to see him go, but I'm glad he decided to go ahead and transfer rather than being miserable and unproductive at Tech.

I didn't say I wished the worst for the guy. But he has showed little loyalty in this situation, except to Michigan.

Also, no nobody ever wished I would have failed all of my classes. But I have a few x's that I am sure hope I am in a ditch somewhere.

Nobody else finds it odd that Michigan didn't offer him last year, but this year he leaves and they snap him up right away?

I think you're on to something there. It seems strange that the Wolverines would be so quick to take him despite showing no interest in recruiting him last year.

I hope he rides the pine for 4 years. This whole thing sucks and I hope it backfires in his face.

Ok, you didn't wish him the worst, but you did wish about the worst thing (excepting serious injury) that can happen to an aspiring athlete.

I didn't mean you want him to die - I'm just saying give the kid a break. You certainly don't have to be happy about it.

I can't think of any reason why UM would really want him now when they didn't last year, except if a current qb were to transfer/get injured. Even so, wouldn't it be a serious NCAA violation to contact/recruit who has signed a LOI with another team?

That being said, I think there's a good possibility it just happens to be where he's from, and they're willing to give him a chance with an extra scholarship. Maybe we'll find out more in the coming days.

Don't think it's much of a stetech to assume he and UM were chatting lately.

Guess it depends on your perspective...whether you are a glass half full :D or glass half empty  kind of guy.

I say who cares, honestly. If I didn't read these message boards I wouldn't even have known this kid existed in all likelihood.

No one will remember this in a year or two unless Threet becomes their starting QB, which seems unlikely.

We got played on this deal. If you are happy about that fine. But this young man, i feal, disrespected an Institute that means alot to me. If you like it fine but this was a dirty move.

I'm still trying to figure out what he did that was so dirty. He came to school for a semester, took some snaps at spring practice (possibly the most overrated evaluation period any team has), decided that something wasn't a fit either academically, atheletically, or emotionally and went home. Maybe I'm not enough of a free thinker to see a young criminal genius at work in all of this, but wouldn't Occam's Razor just tell us that he likely got homesick?

But hey, who am I to try and take away your windmill giants so that you can deal with being disappointed by an 18 year old?

I think that for whatever reason, UM didn't offer him a scholly last year. We get the kid, and then after he gets here the guy who recruited him went to the other UM, the one if Florida. The new coordinator comes in and shows more interest in an athletic, mobile style quarterback than a drop back pure passer. The kid gets nervous about the new offense, new coordinator, has a less than stellar time being a new guy in town, and starts getting homesick and second guesses his decision.

Chan and company encourage the kid to stick it out a little longer; but when they see it ain't happening resign themselves to his leaving and pick up another quarterback recruit. Someone contacts Michigan, either the kid, his parents, or someone close to the situation. Michigan calls Chan and asks what's up with this kid. Chan gives the kid a good recommendation, good student, great talent based on his spring performance, good person; but is homesick and wants to go back closer to home, and wants to find an offense better suited to his abilities. Michigan decides they need another quarterback in house after having theirs flirt with leaving earlier.

I don't think there is any hidden conspiracy at work here. Now someone will probably give Chan heck for possibly helping this kid get on at Michigan; but let me state emphatically, that is totally a guess on my part. I think helping the kid get a transfer to good program is the right thing to do; so I assume Chan helped him.

He should not get late withdrawal because he is a student of Georgia Tech who left without any special circumstances. We always are so proud of our real student athletes, why give them something a normal student wouldn't get?

Yep...let him experience the natural consequences of his decision (and fail this summer semester...just like you or I would experience). Given that the Hill is reportedly so unwilling to bend for athletics, I sure don't want them wasting their goodwill on someon who is LEAVING us.

This kid chewed up scholarship money, coaching time, practice snaps, and a position that could have been offered in our probation-reduced class. How many kids actually committed because of him? Do we know this?

One of you business-types can do a cost-benefit analysis on this ;).

Welcome to GT, Josh Nesbitt.

UM did not recruit him last year because they were after another hotshot QB. They got that QB, so it worked for them. However, they had one of their backup QB's transfer, so all of a sudden there was more room on the depth chart there. Threet sits out this year with 4 more to play afterwards. This hotshot QB is the projected starter next season after Henne leaves. Threet could be possibly #2. Many situations in which Threet could be the heir for a year or two at UM. He grew up wanting to play there apparently, so he saw an opportunity. It sucks that we payed his way for a while. It sucks that he took reps away from other players in spring ball. It sucks that we waisted a scholly on him. However, he did help recruit others to the class. He did help us get a top 20 recruiting ranking. He did draw more attention to the program overall which could help this year as well. Give the kid a break, let him go where he wants to be. Situation sucks, but we'll survive. Better to lose him now than a year or two down the road...

Well said!!

I really do wish Steven Threet all the best. Everyone that has come to know the guy likes him.

There are some very uncomfortable aspects of him leaving, but a person has to decide what's best. He's made his choice. I'm moving on.

I hope he does well at UM both in the classroom and on the field. The later while not playing us. :D

Go Jackets!!

Guess the academics/engineering wasn't as important to him as he said...
