Matt Winkeljohn on Threet

He should not get late withdrawal because he is a student of Georgia Tech who left without any special circumstances. We always are so proud of our real student athletes, why give them something a normal student wouldn't get?
Exactly. Late withdrawals are for students who come down with illnesses. Changing your mind shouldn't qualify.

UM did not recruit him last year because they were after another hotshot QB. They got that QB, so it worked for them. However, they had one of their backup QB's transfer, so all of a sudden there was more room on the depth chart there. Threet sits out this year with 4 more to play afterwards. This hotshot QB is the projected starter next season after Henne leaves. Threet could be possibly #2. Many situations in which Threet could be the heir for a year or two at UM. He grew up wanting to play there apparently, so he saw an opportunity. It sucks that we payed his way for a while. It sucks that he took reps away from other players in spring ball. It sucks that we waisted a scholly on him. However, he did help recruit others to the class. He did help us get a top 20 recruiting ranking. He did draw more attention to the program overall which could help this year as well. Give the kid a break, let him go where he wants to be. Situation sucks, but we'll survive. Better to lose him now than a year or two down the road...

You got it, SM. Michigan was where he wanted to be all along.
No opportunity for a schollarship there until one of their reserve QBs transferred out.

Suddenly there is an OPPORTUNITY. He admitted that he called his HS coach and asked him to call the UM coach and ask if there was a schollarship for him.

He admitted this was done BEFORE he talked with Gailey about leaving.

Affirmative answer. Done deal!

Hind sight is 20-20.

He did help us get a top 20 recruiting ranking.

Do we still have a top 20 recruiting class with him gone. Also, what good does a top 20 recruiting class do you if the Players never see the field. We won't know if this is a top 20 recruiting class for years to come. Sure we are currently projected as top 20 but thats like saying, you win the Nat. Championship because you are ranked number 1 in the preseason polls. It's all about playing the game until each of these players play in an actuall game it is all theory.

Guess the academics/engineering wasn't as important to him as he said...

Uh, yeah, I've visited Michigan for grad school in engineering. Their school is just about on the same level as Georgia Tech, with many Tech PHD's teaching there and vice versa for Tech and Michigan PHD's.

The campus is nicer too, except for the fact that the winters blow.

Don't make a mountain out of a molehill - most of our recruits from last year will see the field. What does beej say - handwaving freakoutery I think?

As others have said beej, you missed the mark with this one. Michigan is an outstanding public school and his education won't suffer by going there. Now, he may have realized that engineering isn't really for him, but whatever he takes there will be quality. Of course it may be parks and recreation.:laugher:

It also sounds like Michigan was his first choice all along anyway. His opportunity for his dream school happened to come along later than normal, but considering he was a likely redshirt candidate, leaving now will allow him to play there as soon as he ever would have had he originally signed with them last February.
The bottom line is that we weren't his top choice to begin with and we ultimately lost out to who was.

I say who cares, honestly. If I didn't read these message boards I wouldn't even have known this kid existed in all likelihood.

No one will remember this in a year or two unless Threet becomes their starting QB, which seems unlikely.

I agree with you 100%.
