We need this kid more involved. Hopefully he wasnt hurt too bad. We might have ööööed up picking Taquan over the kid who beat Virginia Tech in Blacksburg. Need the midline option back if we're gonna have a chance against VT or UGA.

TM’s been having some bad reads but it really showed up with Clemson. Hopefully he learned a lot and will be much better for it.

TM is an explosive player just has to know the reads.

But MJ did seem to know the reads the few plays he was in.

MJ has big balls. Not afraid to lower his shoulder and fight for yards. He is a beast in the midline, but has limitations elsewhere. Quon was very timid against that NFL front last night and it left us with no chance to move the ball.

Midline is our best bet against the defensive talent of Clemson, Miami, UGA, and VT. A huge weapon.

Marshall did miss many reads but they didn't show Jordan the same D as Marshall. After a series to adjust to Jordan they would have violated him. The difference in that game was athleticism. No QB ever alive is going to change that outcome with their dl vs our cub scouts.

Was MJ making reads on those plays? For some reason I thought they were designed runs.

Anyway, Marshall had a terrible game. No doubt about it. But I wouldn't go benching him just yet. He's shown what he can do before in multiple games, and it's fantastic. At 4-3 (0-2), most of our goals this season our gone -- I want to see Marshall keep playing and learning the offense as a starter so he can ball out next season. If he has another one or two like this, then fine, switch to MJ, but be prepared for the fact that he very well may get beaten out again in the spring and we'll be starting another QB with no experience.

The solution to Marshall's tentativeness may just be playing more. Don't forget, this is only his seventh start.

Their defense was the same talent level as Miami. Marshall just played scared against this defense.
This is the answer. All season Marshall has been slinging the ball to A backs in close quarters (pitches that make me pucker while the ball is in the air). Last night he lost his nerve on those plays and held the ball.

I don't think anyone wants Marshall benched. Even with JT5 running the show MJ came in as short yardage/goal QB against the big fast d lines.

Maybe the talent level was the same as Miami (I would give Clemson an edge on talent level); but Clemson coming off a loss with a week off made a huge difference. The rain once again didn't help things because it limited our quickness more than it limited their strength and speed.

I like our chances against VT if we get a dry field.

I need to rewatch, but why didn't we stick with the plays we were calling for mj when Marshall came back in? Marshall missed some shoulda-been touchdown reads. I don't know why he didn't pitch the ball a couple of times when the read was plain as day. Coach did him no favors with play calls. Maybe the answer is that he would've gotten injured up the middle too, but you've got to take what the defense is giving you. Looking at the tape is going to be tough for Paul and Taquon today.

I read in another thread that Clemson switched to a different defense against MJ. Not sure if it's true, but it would make sense. We've definitely run midline with Marshall before this season, so if CPJ thought it would work he would have called it.

When Jordan went out, I thought Marshall would have gotten a spiritual kick in the pants and would have at least settled down a bit but the reads were just as bad after that. Maybe once he sees that a prime time ABC broadcast put a full-screen graphic up with his face, name and the word "misreads" underneath, he'll wake up? I dunno.

If anyone has wondered what our offense would look like with Reginald Ball at the helm, that performance should have half-answered your question.

Reggie was a tougher runner up the middle if that is what you mean. The pass attempts would have looked similar to TM; the QB keeper would have looked better; I don't know what the reads and pitches would have looked like. I suspect RB would have been our second leading rusher behind Benson last night.

Man, don’t bring Reggie into this. He had nothing to do with the abomination we witnessed last night.

Reggie Ball was bigger and tougher than Taquan is

Reggie was a fighter. He would have started a brawl.

It was similar to the 2004 Miami home game with Reggie. That Miami defense was suffocating.

Marshall's only previous road game was against Miami, who doesn't have much of a home field advantage, so playing prime time in messy weather on the road against a Clemson team that our offense usually struggles against may have caused things to snowball. He'll either learn from it and do better against the likes of VT and UGA, or I imagine PJ will pull him at some point in one of those games (not for good, but just to find a way to generate offense short-term).

Marshall was afraid to pitch. End of story. JT5 was often overconfident of his pitches, and they usually worked out. Marshall has a mental block on pitching. The first indication was the 2 point conversion against UT. UGAg and VT will exploit his timidity. He can't throw long. Expect an all out assault on our run game against those two teams. We have not shown we can throw the quick back shoulder pass that JT5 was so good at throwing.

We likely would have lost to Clemson last night anyway just due to physical superiority at every position when their defense lined up against our offense. However, we should have still made better reads. We left yards on the field. Maybe not points, but yards. If we have just a few drives and first downs, we perhaps get Clemson a bit beat up and maybe we can think of something late
