On Mel Kiper's first "Big Board" 2010 Draft projection this afternoon, he has Dwyer as the first RB to be picked, going at #13 overall.

No surprise here!

I thought Kiper had a big rule that he would not try to sway Juniors into leaving early by not putting him on his board until after they declared. Am I wrong, or has he changed his rule on this?

Ah, it appears he keeps backsliding more and more.

Here is a chat with Kiper from last year.

Mel, Why don't you have Michael Crabtree on your Big Board? All he did in the off-season was get better. What is your opinion of Graham Harrell?
Mel Kiper (1:16 PM)

He's on the Big Board for positions, but not the top 25. That's for seniors. With the juniors, I also list third-year sophomores. He's the No. 1 WR on the position list. If he delcares in January, more than likely, he'll be in the top 5. He's on the junior list as the top WR.

And I remember him being all high and mighty a few years ago about "not influencing players coming out" by not listing them until they declared. Guess ESPN has gotten him to change his ways.

What he did today was to simply outline the underclassman's names in red. I also remember the thoughtline about naming non-seniors, but don't think that Kiper will unduly influence any RB's decision, those days are past for the kids at the top of the picks.

It's on the ESPN website, check it out, very interesting.

You have to be an ESPN Insider for the list online, but he said it on ESPN.

God almighty, 6 of the top 15 from the Okie state?

Yeah. Hopefully Oklahoma State can use that talent to beat UGAg.

Eric Berry is an incredible safety!:D

I think if Dwyer stays healthy he could move a little higher. Then, during the lull b/w February and April, he will slide down because there will be skeptics re: the PJ offense. Then, once he goes to the combine and is faster (and stronger/bigger) than any other relative backs we will see the immediate upswing again.

I was very bored today and watched the 2008 highlights. He is the best tailback GT has had since I started watching (1990). The guy is very, very good. It's nice to be excited about GT football.

I think I read that Dwyer beat Eric Berry in the 100M 3 out of four times in high school. Is that right or am I off on that?

If true, that's awesome.

I think Berry is a stud but I wouldn't trade Uno for him.

Dwyer will no doubt be the first back taken and I think it will end up being top ten. There just aren't a lot guys in the draft next year that can be that everydown back, IMO. Most of them are change of pace types or are mid-round talents. Dwyer is really the only first round talent back that will also be an everydown player. I could be wrong, though.

Here's one result I found. Appropriately it's the Coaches Invitational held at Tech.

Boys 100 Meter Dash ======================================================================= Name Year School Finals Points ======================================================================= Finals
1 Dwyer, Jonathan Kell 10.86
2 Dehaven, Michael Sandy Creek 10.94
3 Berry, Eric Creekside 10.98
4 Chambers, Justin Kell 11.03
5 Green, Chris Cherokee 11.19
6 Babb, Justin Westlake 11.27
7 Logan, Antonio Norcross 11.38

They both ran faster at other meets. I always felt Tech's track had a head wind on the 100m side though. That could have been a factor.

Off topic a little but here are some other interesting track results from our guys I found. Remember this is 2007 (Dwyer/Burnett's Senior Year and Hill/Drummond's Sophomore).

These are from the State Championship Meet:
100 METER DASH Place Name School Time Points
1 Woodrow Randall Marietta (5-AAAAA) 10.683
2 Travis Benton Redan (2-AAAAA) 10.885
3 Jonathan Dyer Kell (6-AAAAA) 10.930

200 METER DASH Place Name School Time Points
1 Woodrow Randall Marietta (5-AAAAA) 21.935
2 Tremayne Graham Parkview (8-AAAAA) 22.068
3 Travis Benton Redan (2-AAAAA) 22.092
4 Jonathan Dyer Kell (6-AAAAA) 22.190

LONG JUMP Place Name School Distance Points
1 Eric Berry Creekside (2-AAAA) 23' 5.500"
2 Brandon Boykin Fayette County (2-AAAA) 23' 4.000"
3 Stephen Hill Miller Grove (6-AAAA) 23' 3.500"

TRIPLE JUMP Place Name School Distance Points
1 Phillip Adams Woodland, Cartersville (5-AAAA) 46' 10.500"
2 Fran-cot Freeman Cedar Shoals (8-AAAA) 46' 5.500"
3 Morgan Burnett North Clayton (4-AAAA) 46' 1.000"

DISCUS Place Name School Distance Points
1 Keith Carey Kendrick (2-AAA) 162' 5.000"
2 Drew McAdams Franklin County (8-AAA) 158' 11.000"
3 Darohn Washington Monroe (1-AAA) 154' 5.000"
4 David Noel Monroe (1-AAA) 149' 1.000"
5 Chauncey Bailey Carver, Atlanta (5-AAA) 147' 3.000"
6 Damian Batten Burke County (3-AAA) 144' 1.000"
7 Daniel Drummond West Hall (7-AAA) 139' 11.000"

Hill also made the final of the 300 Hurdles his Sophomore year but finished last. Looks like he got hurt or fell jumping a hurdle as his time was way of the others. Still impressive for a Soph.

Mel Kiper's draft picks have never made any sense whatsoever to me. That said, it's bittersweet to see Dwyer up there. It's great that he's getting Moreno-levels of preseason hype, without being a complete dip****. But this is just one more reason for him to forgo his senior year. And selfishly, I'd like him to stay, and finish his degree.

Dwyer probably won't be wearing a self made t-shirt with a silhouette of himself running over a Miami defender on ESPN on draft day.
