More Gold standard

I sent them an email telling them I was frustrated that they didn't provide the lines in the context of the whole verse. Of course, if they did that, they would have a tough time arguing for the change since the very next line speaks about the son also cheering.

I've always interpreted "the brave and bold" to be the football players. Unless we're going to start having women on the football team, WTF are these people proposing to "join?"

I gotta say... I'm about as pro-female as the modern man gets, having changed my viewpoints after having grown up as an ignorant chauvinistic male . One of my life goals is to help give kids a chance at getting a education in places where it's not really available. That's pretty much most of the world, and a good chunk of it's female population, so I feel really strongly about girls getting equal opportunities.

This kind of crap hurts real attempts by some extremely special and hard working people to make the world a better place. This is just look at us fluff from a group who just wants to look like they are changing the world. There are many gender inequality battles that need to be fought on behalf of our daughters so they can have the same chances we did, but over a fight song that is already pretty inappropriate in so many (awesome) ways, but doesn't show the least bit of gender bias between son & daughter? All I can do is say thank you for the Malalas of the world.

and it's mostly from old people who couldn't get into GT nowadays anywaystroll

I constantly keep hearing about how much tougher Gt is nowadays.

But then I look at the new graduation rates. Then read the posts on this board. And come away thinking exactly the opposite.

something is amiss here.

A charitable thought would be...maybe the people at Tech now are really book smart. But they apparently lack in common sense. again, I am trying to put a positive spin on things.

Or perhaps, maybe some of you apparently stupid posters here didn't really go to GT. again, just trying to be kind here.

Looks like the CS signee(s) have a sense of humor, if the names are an indicator.

I would encourage everyone else to do the same.

Your petition is retarded.

Where do you hear that? I've heard that it's higher ranked and the students are better than ever before, but I've never heard that it's harder. Normally you hear people saying it's easier, that majors have been diversified, and they've gotten rid of or eased up on weed-out classes.

So, do you agree with the petition or not?

I wonder if Stephanie Ray is at it again just like she was in 1998. She's probably needing attention again or needs to make a fuss to stay relevant. She has plenty of Women's Awards and NAACP awards and made a career out of crying "Hey, that's not fair, I am offended.... who's with me"

Per Wikipedia....

Over the years, a few variations of the song have been created at Georgia Tech. In 1998, a 19-member "Diversity Task Force" proposed that changes be made to the fight song because it discriminated against women.[20] The proposal was widely and strongly opposed by students and alumni,[36][37][38][39] and it was dropped.[40]

Classic Response to 1998:

Apology to the Diversity Task Force

To the Editor:
Last Week, there was a letter to the Editor submitted by several groups and noted individuals demanding an apology to the Diversity Task Force for the way most of the campus reacted to the idea of changing the fight song. Here is my formal apology:
I apologize for having the opinion that anyone who believes that the fight song must be changed is nuts. I further apologize for not being of the same opinion as the people on the Diversity Task Force. I apologize for being mean-spirited, hateful, and narrow-minded. I apologize for mistakenly assuming that diversity included everyone's ideas and opinions. Apparently it does not include mine.
I am of the opinion that it is wrong to change the fight song and that any other opinion on the issue should not even be considered. However, since my thoughts and opinions are not acceptable to the Diversity Task Force, I apologize for them.
To the Diversity Task Force: Could you please give us handbook so that we will know what we are allowed to think and believe?

One other note....

The current diversity coordinator at GT (who works with Stephanie Ray) is Karen Yiu.

Ms. Yiu has Master’s degree in College Student Affairs Administration from none other than the ...... University(sic) of Georgia

According to ftrs, this initiative is being led by an associate professor named Martha Grove wit degrees from Illinois and cal tech. I'm sure she'd appreciate any feedback you have.
