Mother of God

Hear, hear! When I was driving back from NYC this weekend, I noticed an older gentleman at the rest area somewhere in Pennsylvania with a GT polo on so I greeted him with "What's the Good Word?". It was great.

I do this a lot and I'd say only about a quarter of the people actually know what I'm talking about. It makes me sad.

Disagree totally. The new stadium is a much better atmosphere, we just need to start beating Georgia.

If we'da taken 50/50 vs Georgia since the new stadium was built, we'd have a lot more people wearing Tech colors in the stands. Pure and simple, the solution to all our woes is to beat Georgia, and beat Georgia a lot.

Atlanta is full of UGA fans, but it's also full of UGA haters. How could it not be? It's the hub of the SEC, and the rest of the SEC hates Georgia. It's full of northerners who've moved south, and they all hate Georgia. It's ripe for an explosion of Tech fans. We just have to BEAT GEORGIA.

I mostly agree with that you say here, though Allen makes a good point about that with Gailey. I think that sort of thing is why I can live with having 11 straight games this season until right before we play Georgia (which isn't a coincidence or I'm a spotted lemur). Beating Georgia two years in a row will be proof to both fans and recruits that the good times are rolling and we aren't going to fall back on our asses into mediocrity anymore.

I live somewhere in Pennsylvania, and I saw a man with a real-print camp UGA hat, as well as a crowned Bulldawg tattoo showing proudly beneath his cut-off sleeves T-shirt in a Rite-Aid, and I nearly decided to "act a fool".

I started my current job about two years ago fresh out of college. Being a Tech fan, I always seek out other Tech fans to chat with or whatever. I noticed a guy my age (25) at work had a Tech sticker on the back of his truck. He wasnt an Alum (went to College of Charlston) but he was a 'good ole boy'. Which surprised me considering he was country AND a sidewalk fan. He seemed like a diehard Tech fan. Anyways, he eventually took another job and I didnt see him until about this last summer. I was at Rosa Mexicana and I see him next to the bar wearing a UGA hat. I was like, "What the HELL Matt?!!?" His response..."Man, I just cant take the losing. Seven in a row is too much to take and it ain't gonna stop anytime soon." Without saying another word, I picked up my corona and just walked away without another word. I cant wait to run into him again. Beating UGAy will help our fanbase expand. People want to cheer for winners. Winning will help our fanbase grow especially with the sidewalk fans.

Do you think he would switch back if the tide turned? Would we want someone like that on the bandwagon?

It makes me wonder how he became a Tech fan in the first place. I mean, I can understand losing interest for awhile because of losing ....but switching to the rival is pretty bad. I guess if you switch quickly beween GT and UGA it could save some heartache. Maybe he could reevaluate at the end of each quarter?;)

And, other than the extended losing streak to UGA, it hasn't been THAT bad relative to history and most other schools.

I'm with you 816f. I'll see some guy with a Tech hat or shirt on and say: "how about those jackets" and they will look at me like I've got 2 heads! Being a Tech fan for close to 40 years that's one thing I've always noticed, we don't really engage one another for some reason and don't actually acknowledge that we are Tech fans! Now you get a bunch of bulldogs together, even if they don't know each other, they usually start "woofing". Not that, that's a thing to admire, but you get the jist!

Sounds like I need to run into some of you guys in public. All of the GT fans I run into are arrogant

Perfect segway for my recent Disney World trip story. First off I found it interesting that in visiting four different parks during our trip I saw more people wearing GT gear than UGA gear. Nice change of pace to say the least.

In a food court at EPCOT I spotted a gentleman, maybe 4-5 years older than myself (I'm 44), wearing the same GT hat that I was wearing. I made a point to walk over to his area, looked right at him and said, "Hey, nice hat you have there --go Jackets." The guy said nothing in response ...nothing!

Later that day I walked by a guy in the Canada section of the park, probably late 20s-early 30s, wearing a GT jersey. I said something like, "Like that jersey, gonna be a great season". Now this guy did engage in conversation and we talked for a minute or two before moving on.

I approached one more guy @ Magic Kingdom. He was wearing a GT hat and I engaged him with a greeting and, like the first gentleman, pretty much got a no response.

It wasn't like I approached these guys like some idiotic UGA fan would another UGA fan --I didn't walk up to these people and start making "buzzing" sounds in their ears. I'm a normal, well-behaved adult and approached these people with that manner. I enjoyed my short chat with the one guy, but was really left dumbfounded by the non-interest from the other guys.

pretty weird, I usually wear Tech stuff and I was recently in NY.

There were couple of girls from other ACC schools (didn't catch which exactly) and they saw my hat and talked about GT and coming to GT for football games among themselves for a bit.

Later while waiting in the line for going to Statue of Liberty, the person right in front of me in the line introduced himself and said he was a GT alumnus as well, we talked for a bit. He is not a football fan or was wearing GT stuff, but he was very friendly.

GT people have varying response in general, some of them, even when they are introduced to me as fellow GT grads, are not willing to talk about GT or anything else.

Just a few weeks ago, I was headed to the O's game at Camden Yards. Darn if I didn't park right next to a "Tech fan". I said hello and he said he was just wearing the hat. Then I realized he was in a group of 8 others (cops from Georgia on some kind of convention) who were all wearing some form of UGA clothing. We razzed each other of course, they knew it was their year to take the razzing and were smartly quiet.

But it was odd that this guy was wearing a Tech hat. The others all then noticed it and said "why are you wearing a Tech hat?". He mumbled something but left it on his head.

I think times are changing and not only are UGA fans going to get used to seeing Tech everywhere again, but they didn't even say anything to this guy prior to me noticing. That is not how it used to be.

I do recall your post now. So basically my approach was flawed. A better approach might have been:

"Boy, that Tools for Statistical Theory, I believe it was STAT6800 at UGA, was theoretically unfeasible. What's the story on CS3510 at Tech, Design & Analysis Algorithms? Nice hat by the way, although those argyle socks don't go well with old gold. Seen the new Star Trek? ..Go Engineers!"

If you wanna meet some great GT fans, hit up Roly Poly in Peachtree City. The guy is a diehard fan and ushers for the basketball games. He actually got CPJ, CPH, Wes, and D-Rad to stop by his restaurant prior to the Caravan stop in PTC a couple of weeks ago. The guy actaully painted his restaurant in white and gold lol.

If you're in Carrollton stop by Benefield Coffee Co. on Maple Street near the University of West Ga campus. They are great GT fans as well. Carrollton is dawg country and the owners told me a great story about the playing the GT-UGAy game this past Nov. on their big screen

Support your GT small business!

I really dont know. I honestly lost a ton of respect for the guy after that. I just wanna see him out again sooooo bad so I can rag him lol. I think he was a fan bc of his father. I do know most of his "huntin" buddies were all Dawgs so I'm sure that had alot to do with it.

When I did see him with the UGAy hat on that night he acted really strangely like he wanted to get out of the room and get away from me haha. I'm sure he was embarrassed.

Tech fans are normally very friendly when I meet them. Twice at Yellowstone earlier this month, a gang of Tech folks stopped me to chat because I was wearing a GT hat.
