Lets be clear on this - getting a pile of candidates, getting them vetted, and getting the best of the vetted ones is his job. That's what he gets paid to do. Vetting is part of it, it's always been part of it. Big loud mouthed donors are part of it, and have always been part of the process. It's his job as AD to make sure the big mouthed donors aren't going to piss all over his candidate, and if they do, that he'll still get vetted, and if he doesn't, that he's got a backup candidate or five.
Seriously. It's what makes an AD a good AD.
If he's a good AD then he'll have another guy to plug in.
