Ted Roof!
:wow:
It's true...
Roof was before my time... What's his story? I know he was here with O'leary what else is there to know?
Good luck to Ted, i hope he does well. He is better than his record shows and he will prove it with the talent at Auburn.Ted Roof!

He played on our famous black watch defense in '85.
He was our D-coordinator from '99-01.
He was Duke head coach from '03.5-07.
He had a bad rep here as a DC because our '99 defense was the worst in school history. If we even had a mediocre defense that year, then Lil Joe wins the Heisman and we probably finish Top 5. Roof got better. Our '00 and '01 defenses were pretty solid. '99 wasnt completely his fault either. We were decimated by injuries and the cupboard wasn't exactly full to begin with.
I'll put is this way - in his one year as DC at GT, we beat Clempson 45-42, lost to F$U 41-35 and UVA 45-38 (blew 17 point lead in Charlottesville), beat UGAg in OT because 48 points weren't enough to win in regulation.
And he can seriously recruit in the state of Georgia. I personally hopes he kicks some Dawg butts too in their annual game. He is still one of my favorite Tech players ever.
I don't believe I have ever heard that season encapsulated so succinctly or so correctly. Bravo.
Ted Roof was the leader of our Black Watch defense that returned GT football back to being competitive in 1985. He played the All-American Bowl against Michigan St that year injured. He was in incredible pain...but whenever he left the game Lorenzo White would rip off a good run. We ultimately held Lorenzo to something like 140 yds on 44 carries. That same game John Dewberry and Gary Lee were suspended for missing curfew...plus the backup FB.
Anyway....he is a good coach and a phenomenal recruiter.
As someone else has said....the biggest problem he
had at GT was being the DC under George
O'Leary....a know it all on defense. Roof likes to mix
things up, show different blitz packages, etc. Once O'Leary was gone....Roof was able to fully coach us in the bowl game and we shut down our opponent and looked completely different defensively.
This is a good pickup for Auburn.
The rest of the time O'Leary demanded he run a bunch of plain look NFL type schemes.
Tenacious, hell-bent-for-leather player. But would you swap Wommack for him?
Ted Roof!
:wow:
Thank you for saying this.
Yea I played with Ted and am a very loyal friend too him but I have had too defend him on here countless times. Majority of people don't or wouldn't listen when I defended him. Hiver, thanks.
