I don't want CPJ fired this year, nor will he be (although Roof is another story), but he won't be around forever. He'll either retire in several years or, if things don't improve, he'll be fired. I've often thought of what it would take or what the best next step would be for us after moving on from CPJ. I understand some of you want another TO guy/CPJ disciple after he's gone, which makes some sense.

However, I think I've decided that an offense like Auburn's would be best. We would be able to...
-Run it immediately with our current personnel.
-Recruit more effectively because it doesn't have quite the same stigma as the TO (for some reason).
-Have a more balanced offense. For example, Auburn threw the ball 29 times on Saturday and that's about average for them.
-Give us the ability to switch to another type of offense entirely after that. For example, if things don't work out, we can switch back to the TO or switch to a pro-style/more traditional spread offense and I believe we'd be better positioned from a personnel standpoint to do that after a few years with this type of offense than we would if we made the switch straight from the TO.

Thoughts?

Traditional spread would be my preference. CCG's main problem was that he could never find or develop a QB. Great QB's certainly don't grow on trees but the quality of QB's in the GHSA has improved dramatically in the past decade (cam, deshaun, Lawrence, fields, Fitzgerald, just to name the big ones). I think we'd be able to land some quality qb's that can throw the ball around as opposed to the 90's/2000's when GHSA did not produce many P5 quality qb's.

You mean like Kentucky? Or Mississippi State in a bad year? Because that's the same offense, with players closer to our recruiting caliber.

I want a more personable disciple of CPJ to come in, who has a better understanding of player motivation, but runs the same stuff. That or a D guru who keeps the 3O in place.

I'm perfectly happy with our offense as is. From 1990 to 2007 we only scored more than 17 points against uga - 4 times. Since 2008 we have scored more than 17 against uga - 6 times. Our offense since 2008 isn't the problem. We have down games, but overall we are in a much better position as a team than we were running a pro set. I'm with beej that we need a DC. Air Force in 2009 had a top 10 defense. It can be done.

It doesn't matter what the offense is if the coach is crappy or the recruiting is crappy.

no matter what offense we run, until we get a QB who can throw accurately, we'll never be more than a 6-5 team

In Bill Walsh College Football for Super Nintendo I went undefeated with a base offense of fake punt. 1st down - fake punt run. 2nd down - fake punt pass. Never had a 3rd or 4th down that I can remember. Scored on every drive.

I think the right coach can make that work in reality.

We've been better than a 6-5 team five out of the past ten years, and I'm not sure we've had a QB who can consistently throw accurately any of those years.

Our coaches have done a great job at putting our QBs in a position (always from under center, more often than not trying to run routes too long, etc.) to almost guarantee failure.

If the passing game showed more success then sewak’s flop & bite blocking would have to change, and the fans might demand more passing. That would make our O genius look like he may not have been perfect.

Please not more of the same. It bores me.

I also am surprised that our recruiting prowess is on par with the service academies so that we have to run this offense to be competitive, which we aren't.
