Next Years D Line

You guys fail at math.

Money is the root of all evil, therefore:

Money = sqrt(evil)

...

Just want to point out that if there is good in the world and evil is considered a negative trait, and since the sqrt of a negative is imaginary, then money is imaginary.

Techbert,
going to buy a lottery ticket and imagine what he will do with all that money

And Beej, I think I saw some decent potential in Reid and Taylor, I know it isn't Burnett potential but I don't think they sucked as bad.

I thought they had potential as well, but also don't think they had the kind of obvious upside that would make me feel great about them next year.

beej67,
who's imagination is the root of his thoughts, which means his thoughts are negative ones

(gotcha)

Corollary to the Proof: The Reggie Ball Regression

Proof
Reggie Ball, AJ Suggs, Bilbo and Taylor Bennett were the only starting QBs coached by Chan Gailey at Tech. They all sucked, even more so as the season went on. Hence,

Marginal QB + Time + Chan Gailey = Bad QB

Nesbitt received only a few slivers of the poison, which was responsible for the LSU game. Given enough antidote (PT with CPJ), he may recover.
Right, and since we have an actual coach now, I would expect players to improve over their careers....like they do at most programs.

You guys fail at math.

Money is the root of all evil, therefore:

Money = sqrt(evil)

(money)^2 = evil

As previously shown:
Money = Time

Evil = Time^2

Evil = Bad

Bad = Bad ASS

Therefore:

Marginal player + Time^2 = Bad Ass Player

So in 2010 our players will be Bad Ass.

Also, let me freek you people out a li'l more with my mathefactics.

If Bad Ass = Bad = Evil, then Bad Ass = Time^2

Everyone knows that Times Square is in NYC and Jonathan Dwyer was ACC POTY, therefore:

Jonathan Dwyer = Bad Ass

Bad Ass ACC POTY + Time^2 = Jonathan Dwyer Heisman Trophy in 2010.

*BOOOM* Ur mind was blowed.

Again, don't even mess with my mathefactics. You will lose.

/thread.

Game Over. Everyone just go home and kill yourself, you will never begin to imagine yourself on kirbee's level.

Exactly! I was going to post much the same thing, but you beat me to it.

I predict Lanier will need a redshirt to change body composition and get stronger.

IMO, TJ Barnes, Anderson, & Walls will be a three man rotation. If someone gets hurt, some strong/slightly undersized player (Peters? Cross? Morgan?) will have to log minutes at DT, like Adamm Oliver had to do.

On third downs I could see bringing in A Wilson as pass rushing specialist and letting Morgan or Peters rush from one tackle spot. I think Hall is going to be an animal and would have started on many other teams last year.
thanks for getting this thread back on track.

Morgan (DE) will be the obvious starter and I hear Jason Peters (DE) has impressed. .

Therer was just an article two weeks ago with the GT defensive coaches gushing about Robert Hall at DE and fully indicating he would start opposite Morgan if the season started tomorrow. They also said he was the meanest DL we had.

I had read that also. I think we'll be fine on the DL regardless who starts. I'm more concerned about the interior linemen. We need to not only have "space eaters" but we need to get push out of those guys...Outside of Barnes, I'm not sure who we'll have that can generate consistant push from the interior.

This doesn't say much, but the Play at GA Tech blog has a couple quotes from Womack.
http://www.playatgatech.com/blog/blog.php

Said Tech defensive coordinator Dave Wommack of his players, “Right now, it’s critical that they get in the weight room, that they get stronger, bigger, in some cases smaller, improve their agility, those types of things.”
2. How will they replace three starters on the defensive line?

Defensively, the Jackets’ greatest strength has become an area of inexperience. End Michael Johnson and tackles Darryl Richard and Vance Walker, along with backup Elris Anyaibe, were the backbone of Tech’s defense. They’ll take the experience of a combined 88 starts and 198 games with them.

Defensive coordinator Dave Wommack gave returning backups Ben Anderson, Robert Hall and Jason Peters plenty of snaps. The addition of freshman T.J. Barnes, who was a scout-team terror this past season, is highly anticipated.

Said Wommack, “The young guys, the T.J. Barnes and Antonio Wilsons and the Logan Walls and those guys, need to step it up a notch.”

Dude, I read on the Hive we're going to be even better on the DL. The new guys are GAP FILLERS! They are BIG! I'm talking S-P-A-C-E---E-A-T-E-R-S!!! Damnonejustraninmyofficeandatemyspacebar!!!!!111.

Darryl Richardson was ok, but he's more of a brain type. Michael Johnson was just tall. Anyaibe? I bet you don't even know what his first name is.

Those guys aren't exactly bums but we're going to be much better with the guys backing them up this year. I heard that new guys are going to lift weights and might try to get older and more experienced in the off season. Don't tell anyone about that last part less other teams try it!

The only guy who is coming in bigger is Barnes. Logan and Anderson are 20-25 lbs smaller than Walker and/or Richards. Lanier is a big body, but can he play at that weight immediately? He probably needs to go on a diet and get fit before we can expect any serious contributions from him.

I hear that Robert Hall will easily be the other starting DE next year next to Morgan. I like what he brings as he has a lot of game experience.

Its going to be hard to replace three ALL ACCers and two All Americans on the DL. We're going to have a drop off. I hope the linebackers can play better.

Well, I have posted before that I think we'll be okay on the DL in '09, and I'm not being sarcastic.

There's no question that there will be a dropoff in talent and experience, but it may well be an apples-to-oranges comparison between '08 and '09.

This year we had four guys that could all threaten for a sack. I wouldn't have described them as "run stoppers," though. As a result, the teams that beat up on us did it on the ground. This was made easier because we had young guys and second-teamers at LB and DB.

Next year we'll have a legitimate pass rusher in Morgan, but he'll be double-teamed often. Based on what I've heard, Hall can handle the other end quite well (Who knows? Could end up having a breakout year like Morgan had in '08 due to MJ). To complement the ends, we'll have a legitimate run stopper in Barnes. I just think the DL will be more balanced. Add to that an experienced LB and DB corps, and I think the '09 D will be better next year.
