NFL players missing in boat off Gulf coast...

I wouldn't worry too much about this. It's probably just Daunte showing the boys a good time.

Certainly the GT community is familiar with the dangers of the ocean.

If you are not smart AND CAUTIOUS you will become a fatality.

I was swimming in Ft Lauderdale in Dec of this year and the conditions (tide was going out) were much more intense then they appeared. I had swam out and then realized how bad the currents were and then I immediately swam full speed towards the shore. When I got there there were multiple lifeguards (who had observed me) and the guy said that if I would not have been a strong swimmer I would not have been able to get back to the beach and they had already made plans to go in the water after me.

A couple of rules for the ocean are:

Flotation devices are NOT for the beach (should definitely not be used past waste deep)

The MOMENT things get dicey it is time to point your boat toward shore.

Growing up in Savannah I have spent most of my vacation time on beaches, but my father ALWAYS stressed safety.

It blows my mind when 4 millionaires get into a boat and don't come back.

Thoughts and prayers with families

Any fishers post here? Quick question about that article from fox listed above.

Coast Guard Capt. Timothy M. Close said at least one of the men was an experienced boater, and relatives provided the Coast Guard with GPS coordinates from previous fishing expeditions.

Is this common for relatives to know GPS coordinates of fishing expeditions? I am not a fisherman, so do not know about this -- but seemed a bit strange for me.

My inlaws have a beach house in Panacea and go fishing often. They share gps coordinates with their relatives who also like to fish. They pass the good fishing holes back and forth and will routinely say they are going to go fish one of the particular spots. They have different names for the different coordinates.

I am hopeful the Coast Guard will find these folks but not as optimistic as others. This is not good, and I feel for their families.

Thanks BuzzLaw. I just thought it was strange about families knowing a GPS coordinate, but I guess this is common for fishing.
