Here's what i noticed during the rewatch:

Offense:
  • I didn't have a huge issue with MOST of the play-calling
  • Sims should've been pulled after the first 2 series, and Yates given a chance
  • WRs have to improve on the little things; they made some mistakes at really important times (eg: 4th down endzone)
  • OL has a lot of room for improvement
  • I'd like to see more 2 back packages and less TE; play to our strengths instead of a chart
  • Yates is a beast
Defense:
  • We are somehow worse against HUNH than with Roof
    • The only times the defense looked like they were playing to their level was when the game moved slow.
    • DL has to get set sooner; i think this was a major reason we lacked pressure
    • Secondary often looked flat footed
    • Our Def looked gassed at the end of HUNH drives while their offense looked fine
  • We lack a true rush threat
  • Substitution WTFs
For next week:
  • Clearly our defensive staff has never seen the hurry-up offense before. Someone ship them some VHS tapes so they can learn about this brand-new phenomenon
  • Hopefully KSU runs their offense as slowly as CPJ
  • If Yates isn't starting against KSU, that is a massive indictment against the coaching staff. It should be his spot to lose.
  • If defense doesn't improve, that's where new hires are needed most. As has been said 100 times since saturday: i thought we hired a defensive head coach...

I don't agree with all of that, but you are to be commended for suffering through that a second time.

This is something I would like to see as well. When you have the best two RBs in the league, why not trot them out there. Clearly we aren't doing anything with our TEs.

Run read option to Mason with Gibbs in the flats. That would force a corner to step up and should free the WR on that side.

If our RBs were only 2 deep, i could see why we wouldn't. But we're still very light at TE and we're still relatively heavy at RB - 2 backs simply lets us use our existing skill players better.

Bohannon said they have a shotgun package and a hurry up package that they have added over the years. So they can run HUNH and not sub, since they won't be shuttling in slotbacks with the play calls.
So .. this could be a problem.

Yes, yes, yes. Mason is mister inside and Gibbs is mister outside. Some plays Mason could even be an extra blocker. With our line blocking Gibbs should never run between the tackles. We don't need 3 wideouts running routes when the QB never gets past the first read.

Gibbs is a solid inside runner as well. So he could easily follow Mason inside. And the MLB absolutely must account for Mason.

NIU did a surrender punt with 4:30 left….then forced a 3 and out then went 80 yards in like 2:00 flat to win the game.

Again, after not scoring a point for like 3 hours of real time and more or less giving up, 3 and out, TD, win the game.

By the way, how many times have we seen Tech score late just like NIU did but the defense ends up giving up like a 30-yd field goal for the win or tie. Remember Labor Day at VPI? Somehow Collins and Patendud barely got across midfield.

1-2 first downs would have won the ballgame and we couldn't manage that on our drive before their scoring drive. Amazing

Winning games appears to be a secondary concern to this coaching staff. The proverbial square peg will be forced no matter what.

I don’t really agree with this; not disparaging Yates at all, but the starter shouldn’t lose his job to an injury. Yes, Sims stunk the place up before he was injured, but he didn’t have a chance to come back and show he had his head on straight.

Giving the starting role to a backup after the starter was injured (and recovered) was one of the things that caused Lewis to lose his team.

But I would expect Sims to be pulled if he continues to play poorly.

We don’t have starters in this program. You are either above or below the line.

Depth charts are for fans. You can trot anyone out you like for the first play of the game and they are considered the starter
