NIU Rewatch thoughts

But it was NIU's first game, too...

This is the one really bad miss that bugged me – 1st and 10 from the NIU 33, overthrows a wide open Nate McCallum.

If we had made any of the 3 plays (passes) that start with the overthrow to McCullom, we score and probably win.

Competition happens during the week in training sessions. Have you been to the practices? If so, who is winning out then?

I hear what you're saying, and there's truth to it, but the points are only generated on Saturdays. Game day performance has to matter a lot more than practice and should be weighted accordingly. Considering the difference in performance between them on Saturday, that seems like an impossible challenge for Sims to overcome this week.

Wasnt it just last year where Collins kept talking about how good our kicker was in practice yet he couldn't even hit a pat consistently?

I don’t really agree with this; not disparaging Yates at all, but the starter shouldn’t lose his job to an injury. Yes, Sims stunk the place up before he was injured, but he didn’t have a chance to come back and show he had his head on straight.

Giving the starting role to a backup after the starter was injured (and recovered) was one of the things that caused Lewis to lose his team.

But I would expect Sims to be pulled if he continues to play poorly.

If you are referring to Luginbill, that had nothing to do with injury and everything to do with the OC and his desire to run the air raid or some version of it. It was a lose/lose situation that CGO rectified.

Sims should not get the start. He played terrible, just like last season. Yates played great. Yates is obviously the better passer. The old canned statement that a starter shouldn’t lose his job due to an injury is a load of crap. You go with your better player.

Sims shouldn’t have been the starter to begin with. Horrible accuracy. Fumbles.
