some great non-conference games.

Let's play what if...

Let's say we go undeafeated and are 13-0 in a given season, we could very well get shut out of the MNC game because of the perception nationwide now of just how weak the ACC is...This could very well happen in the future.

We need to eliminate games like Garder Webb and Jax, State and schedule ANY Sec team that will take the bait or turn to the Big 10 or Big 12 and fill our schedule....

Fsu and Miami scheduled the best teams out there in the 70's and 80's before they joined a conference. They had the attitude of play anyone and anywhere and they started beating those teams and became the best 2 teams in college football in the 80's and 90's...

We also need to act now, because once the rest of the country sees how difficult it is to prepare and beat P.J. (I think people all over the country already know about P.J. BUT, they are waiting to see if he can win in a BCS conference) we will probably have a very difficult time getting a top quality team to play us after this year and definetly after next year. We possibly could get a few major B.C.S. powers out there to bite right now, if we act, because most schools would love to come here into Atlanta and play, because of the possibilities in recruiting.

Mark my word, if an ACC team goes undefeated over the next 2 or 3 years we could very well be shut out of the MNC game...

Go to ramblinwreck.com

There, you will find a link to all of our OOC games for the next 6-10 years...

As a matter of fact, here: http://ramblinwreck.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/012507aad.html

There's not much that will change out of that unless we get involved in something like the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Classic (or whatever it's called). Even then, we'll probably move one of our OOC games to that venue.

Im definetly aware of this, BUT, we have a little wiggle room out there and I was thinking the same thing about that game last night, we could get a UT, Lsu, UF, Texas to play us in that game. How bout approaching a Texas ,Oklahoma, Uf or UT in scheduling a game at a neutral site like Jax, or Orlando ? It could be done....Don't forget the state of Florida is an attractive spot for teams like Okl. Texas, Ohio State to play a game in, just for the recruiting possibilities.

This is why I don't see how Goose and law_bee and some others on this board are laughing about what happened to Clemson and VT yesterday. I understand U[sic]GA is more important than a national championship or whatever...but don't you want both? When this happens they will both be eating their words from now...I just don't understand how they can't see it.

That too, kills me about a few GT fans that root against our conference teams in OOC games... It only hurts our conference when we lose these OOC games...That is one thing I can say that sec fans are good at, they root for each other in OOC games...Anyone that roots against our ACC brethren don't get it.

I always root for our ACC teams and in particular root against sec teams...

I guess I like UT better than any other sec team, since I have a son going to school in Tenn. and they are good folks up there, BUT, I will root against them tomorrow night against U.C.L.A. just because I'm tired of all this sec blatter around ATL.

The only problem with that is the fact that most schedules are pretty rigid. It takes a significant amount of wheeling and dealing to change something. Take this year for example. Many people are upset about having two 1-AA teams, and they have to be constantly reminded that we tried in vain to schedule a tougher opponent. The money may not be right, the desire might not be there. I agree that neutral site games are the best way to overcome these obstacles, but it's still not that easy. If anything were to happen, the process would have to start now, which, I guess was your original point anyway... :laugher:

SEC teams we have scheduled out to 2021:
MSU
Ole Miss
Vandy
Alabama
Auburn
South Carolina

(Obviously UGAg too)

Problem is, these are mid to bottom teams in SEC right now. Auburn and Alabama have a chance to be good when we play them.

We need to schedule LSU, UF, and Tennessee.

The good teams like Ala. and Auburn are way too far down the road....We need to play some Big Time OOC ooponents SOON !!! Over the next 2 or 3 years..

You all realize that these schools have to agree to play us too, right? Top SEC schools don't usually play decent OOC games.

You are wrong. LSU played VT last year. UGA plays ASU this year. UF plays Miami this year and played FSU last year. Tennessee plays Cal and UCLA.

+1 Look no further than the cesspool for proof:

Georgia Southern
Central Michigan
well, at least Arizona State is ranked.

Also note that these games are hitting 1, 2 and 4 on their schedule. Asside from facing their master in game 3, they'll be well meshed before facing their toughest conference games.

We have a weaker OOC schedule and we don't even play in a tough conference.

We need to eliminate the D-II games entirely, including GA Southern.

These wins do not count in the BCS formula.

However, they do count towards bowl eligibility.

We need to expect the bowl bids and shoot for more points in the BCS...i.e. scheduling Temple/Baylor instead of Jax State/Samford is a hell of a lot smarter.

My personal preference would be to schedule the service academies and Notre Dame as much as possible if they would agree to play us. I realize that Army backed out on us this year and thus we played Jacksonville State. But when you can play them, the academies provide national exposure and are not all that difficult to beat.

Next, I would like to see us play SEC teams in neighboring states...SC, Tenn, Vandy, Bammer, Auburn, and Florida. There would be great local interest and a full stadium.

I hate to play 1-AA teams. When you win, you gain nothing (UGA may drop out of the #1 slot in the rankings with their unconvincing win over GSU), and when you lose it is huge.

Well, they're supposed to be the No. 1 team, right? And while they didn't know this when the games were scheduled, they were at least hovering around in the top 5.

By way of comparison, USC has Virginia, Ohio State and Notre Dame on their schedule. Granted, VA didn't look good against them, but they usually end up with a winning record. The same can be said about ND, even though they sucked last year. Also, USC ain't playing any I-AA or II schools.

I'm not worried about the "what happens when we're 12-0 and are left out of the National Championship game" scenario. It has happened once, a BCS Conference school left out with a perfect record - Auburn.

The non-comference mix I see looks great. This year we have Gardner-Webb because of Army backing out. Mississippi State and UGA with one breather to get started and a nice trip to West Point would be a perfect schedule.

Go ahead and line up USC, Ohio State, LSU, and UGA for Coach Johnson. I doubt he will thank you for making sure he made it to the BCS title game when he went 13-0. Instead, he will probably blame you when he gets fired for losing seasons. Let's play reasonable schedules and win an ACC championship. Then, if we get slighted, we can toughen the non-conference schedule.

I'd rather be us than UVA today.
