Obvious now that Jaybo is major step down from Josh

Kyle is right, and Paul Johnson would agree with him. Read Johnson's book on TO football, and you will understand why.

We completely went away from Johnson's offense in the second half, and the reason was because Jaybo could not run it.

Jaybo has been running this offense for years and knows his reads as good or better than Josh. Duke brought their DB's up to stop the run and we took advantage of it. This offense is so much more than just the TO, as PJ has repeatedly stated, and you evidently do not realize.

Sure, maybe Nesbitt makes that play, but maybe after turning it upfield he pulls a hamstring and misses the next 2 (maybe 3 games). If he's going to play two, sit three for the rest of his career, he won't be better.

You can make a case that Shaw is at least the equal of Nesbitt. They have different skill sets. I was very impressed with the way Jaybo threw the ball yesterday. The pass to Bebe that he had to go up for was perfect and the 88-yarder is probably the first time a WR has caught a bomb in stride since George Godsey (maybe even Joe H.) was here. His pitches have been on the money. He's not afraid to take a hit, or eat the ball and move on to the next play.

Josh is an exceptional athlete. Jaybo is, too. We'd be very fortunate to have either one for their entire careers. Thank G*d, we have both.
Great post I totally agree with you.

My high school used to play that song; would be fun to bring it to Tech.

I think we've been brainwashed by years of Gailey and Tenuta. Both of them, especially Tenuta, are of the philosophy that if something doesn't work, you should simply keep trying it. Again. And again. And you just keep doing the same thing. Coach Johnson is not nearly as stubborn. He can and will make adjustments on the fly. Yes, he runs the veer an awful lot. That is his baby. But he's smart enough to know that you cannot throw rock every time. Sometimes, you throw paper or scissors. And I trust him enough to let him throw whatever he pleases.

+1

I don't think some of the wouldbe experts on here understand that some of Josh's magnificient runs are the result of making a poor read, and then turning a busted play into a 30 yard gain..because he can. Both these guys run the offense well, but they bring different strengths and give CPJ yet another option/dynamic to add to a game. Next year, when Josh's reads are quicker and more natural...oh my

Look, we have an outstanding starter and an outstanding backup. They both bring something different to the table and we are in my opinion the luckiest team in America right now due to that fact.

Let me ask this. Which has fewer turnovers? I checked and Shaw has 0 interceptions to Nesbitt's 1. However, I couldn't see the fumble numbers. We would be undefeated with fewer turnovers at Virginia Tech.

If you have a good defense, I would be more than happy to trade ball security for a homerun threat.

Hard to make an argument for 0 interceptions vs. 1. Jaybo threw a pass to 3 Miss. State defenders that really should have been picked.

Fumbles stats:

Miss. State: Shaw is charged with one fumble, and we recover it. Dykes fumbled so that obviously wasn't Shaw's fault. Roddy Jones also fumbled. All fumbles were recovered by us

Duke: Shaw is responsible for 3 fumbles. Only one is lost. That one definitely lost some early points.

Virginia Tech: Rough game. Nesbitt fumbles 3 times and loses two. He also throws his only interception after pass protection breaks down. He had a guy...but got hit as he threw and it really wasn't an easy throw to begin with. The fumble at the end of the first half really hurt.

Boston College: Melton fumbled the punt return. Nesbitt was responsible for fumbling one and Roddy Jones one as well. All fumbles were lost.

In my view, turnovers are a bit of a wash right now. Jaybo was lucky to recover most of his fumbles, while Josh didn't get those lucky bounces.

I will agree with the consensus in this thread. Josh is better than Jaybo. But I'm very glad to have a backup QB as capable as Jaybo. We've already needed, and will continue to need, both of them this season.

Josh is much better than Jaybo. He'd be the best on our team at breaking tackles, were it not for Dwyer. Josh is also faster than Jaybo. Josh also has a better arm and threw for a ton of yards in HS.

Something about your intelligence? It escapes me.

Thank you Gnats. Jaybo is not a step down. He might still be our best qb--if nothing else, he is now our most experienced qb---and he was that already, having run this offense (or one similar to it) as a school boy. He lacks the big time arm---but everything else is top notch. I would have no qualms marching into Athens with Mr. Shaw at the controls, assuming he plays the next six games. :p
The line will get better; the backs will get better; and as a result Jaybo will be better. Ain't nuttin'wrong with Jaybo Shaw at qb.

he's experienced at the high school level. you really want him in there against Clemson, UGA, FSU, etc? He was nervous as hell just for Duke. And he's definitely not our best QB. He is the backup for a reason, unless you know something PJ doesn't. I don't think he will ever consistently start at Tech, but that's just me...

He played well on Saturday and that's all that matters for now.

I don't know what games you're watching. The WHOLE offense is not "clicking" and has not. Fits and starts of promise, yes. Clicking? Yeah, right.

Jaybo has proven himself to be competent and in some ways more proficient at this offense. Josh is number one, Jaybo is a good two. What's your problem?

It's that damn kool-aid isn't it?

The offense was clicking more than a ****ing thirteen year old in a 1 am porn search in the first half.

Don't be stupid.

What game were you watching? Until Nesbitt got hurt, we were marching up an down the field at will. Our first five drives ending in a score. The 6th drive was a punt. On the 7th drive to start the half, we scored a TD. On the 8th drive, Nesbitt got hurt. So, I guess if you conclue that one punt out of 7 drives is not clicking - well, then you're an idiot. Get of the "you're drinking the kool'aid" bandwagon - it's about to fall off a cliff.
