Just played the #3-ranked runner-up to the NC. With no offensive support, our defense gave us a chance to stay in this thing til the 4th quarter.
Offensively, we could not do anything. We will know next week just how good the Clemson defense really is. We simply couldn't get any real traction beyond the 4th quarter when we went old school and grinded out an 11-play, 89 yard drive. In that drive, the offense demonstrated that 1) it was capable once it got a toehold and 2) they weren't going to quit.
Either the Clemsom defense is just THAT good or we just aren't back to '14-level efficiency - maybe a bit of both. Again, we may see next week that Clemson is the best defense we face all year. I think that may be the case.
In 2014 we came off an emotional win at home and proceeded to lose back to back games to Duke and UNC. Those losses propelled us to an incredible run through the month of November. Perhaps this game can have the same impact - we've seen this offense do well against FBS competition. Tonight we met the upper echelon of FBS and stayed scrappy.
I reserve judgment until next weekend. I think we will win in a close one. Day game at home against Miami is good for us. I like how our defense is playing and think they will continue to give us chances to win.
Flame on you summer soldiers and sunshine patriots, we will win at least 8 this year.
