Official 2017 Bowl Games Thread Episode 29: Who’s Watching This Garbage?

BS, the defender didn’t touch him until he was into the dive and not going to touch the ball.

Just because it wasn’t PI doesn’t change my surprise that they didn’t throw a flag.

You know it’s bad when you hear the collective “ew” of the crowd watching the replay.

I was calling BS on the announcer saying it was obviously PI. Looked worse live than it did on replay.

NCS in a cakewalk over Arizona St, 38-10 in the 4th.

That last TD made me turn it off. The ASU guys aren't even on the field. Nobody in that entire stadium cares, and NCST is just running victory laps into the end zone. Herm's got a hell of a thing in front of him.

Kentucky is actually getting shafted by these officials, but they're handling it with such a lack of class that I can only root for them to get screwed some more.

How can you call that targeting? All the impact was in the player's chest

It's illegal to lead with the crown of your helmet regardless of where you hit the offensive player. If he'd kept his facemask up, it wouldn't have been called. That said, how you can avoid that when the guy jumped in the air I do not know.

There are supposed to be more factors than that. TL;DR from the link, the guy still has to be ruled defenseless, and you still have to have an indicator, such as a launch or other motion that signals it may have been your intent to lead with the crown.

It's all subjective in the end, but I could see in the replay what the refs might have been looking at to make all of those determinations. It didn't look like a terrible call to me, but also wouldn't have looked terrible going the other way.
