Official Geoff Collins Fired Watch Party Thread

At T+1 day, honestly can't believe it hasn't been done.

Only reason i can think of is CGC holding out for full buyout and AD wanting a discount. Wonder if Collins has really thought about the total embarrassment he's going to experience the next 3 months if he stays.
If our AD is involved in these negotiations, we are in bad shape.

Lot of you fellas don't wanna hear it but he ain't wrong that fans are part of it. How many of you live within an hour drive of the stadium but don't have season tickets? How many of you have net worths approaching or greater than 7 digits left of the decimal, yet donate less than 4 digits per year to athletics? How many of you talk about the need for the 'big money donors to step up' and pay out the $10 million buyout yet you are miserly or not-at-all with your own donations to the GTAA?

I could go on but you get the point.

Now, that has nothing to do with Collins and the ineptness he's shown. But until Tech fills the stadium every week, paying off the debt on the stadium won't happen. Until that happens, the athletic association will always be cash-strapped. It
Why should we show up anymore?? This was probably the most tech fans I have seen in awhile and look at the on the field performance that took place...hell even Miss fans were leaving in droves. Put something exciting on the field and they will show up!!

FWIW, here's our Sagarin ratings...

At the rate we are going, on the far right column on this ranking list are the conferences we'll get to choose from after the ACC is raided.

Humiliation is realizing later you left millions on the table.

Agreed. I know I could face a lot of humiliation for $1 million a month. In fact I would be willing to coach GT next year for $3 million with only a $3 million buyout, who on here wouldn't. Sad thing is, I would be saving GTAA millions of dollars with such deal.

But that's not really the option, if we are dead set on saving the money. At that point for him, its either take a reduced buyout now, or take a reduced buyout 3 months from now while experiencing the humiliation

What date exactly does the buyout drop? Looked for it, can’t find it. Everything I read just generically refers to the end of the season. The reason I ask is because if it is Jan 1 we are royally ööööed because early signing day when the majority of recruits sign is Dec 21.

That would mean our brilliant AD kept him last year knowing he couldn’t fire him before Jan 1, 2023 to save the money he wanted to save. Our AD decided to screw the next coach by keeping the clown.

Steven Godfrey (late of SBNation, now of Split Zone Duo) talked about it on a subscriber's podcast last night: dates of drop are Dec 1 and Jan 1. That's per his industry sources, as contracts can get complicated, but that's his best understanding of the contract. We obviously have to fire him before the Jan 1 date, and even the Dec 1 date is more than pushing it. The process needs to start now, honestly.

If GT (and/or its fans) cares about the $4-5MM buyout difference for firing CGC today vs next year, then this is all just a circle jerk... that's pennies in 2022.

These talking points just show how far behind real college football we have fallen. We are paying our coach bottom-barrel P5 compensation, and getting bottom-barrel results.

What's everyone's expectation for GTFB, that we are a top 25 program like we were under GO'L? Great, then put together a top-25 budget. Kentucky's coach is paid between 14th and 16th in the country, depending on your source, and he's paid more than double what CGC is paid.

Sadly (and you know this), a lot of GT fans want to see those results first and then will consider buying tickets to a game one day. Hell, most of the board posters here don't buy tickets or support the program financially. This is supposed to be the fanatics; what do you think the average alum does?

While firing Collins will at least stop this disaster, given the school's lack of commitment and a dope of an AD with an indifferent school prez, I'm having trouble seeing the way back for GT being competitive. Sure, a competent coaching staff could at least have this roster competing and winning some games in conference, but where will the money come from for this?

The longer this goes on, makes me worried that the Georgia game might be closer than we'd like.

I don’t care what the score is. But I don’t want to see us play it with cowardice like we did last year. That was embarrassing.
