Official Louisvile Postgame Thread

We should beat all of these teams and it shouldn't be close.
Should? Yes.
Shouldn't be close? How much Tech football have you really watched? It will be agonizingly, reach for the nitroglycerin close.

That’s not the game I saw. We gifted them a td and spent the game playing catchup. Our HC made some dumb decisions. We were fairly well matched against a team that had played two fewer games.
Their DL ate our OL's lunch.
Our run D was solid. But zero sacks - again - and only three TFLs. They had seven of those.

And the ToP was out of whack because from 1:38 in the third to 3:53 to go in the game their offense was on the field for one play, the safety. Because we got stuffed on fourth down, got the safety, then went blocked FG for a TD and then got stopped again on fourth down. That was two possessions, totalling more than seven minutes off the fourth quarter clock where they never touched the ball and we got further behind.

We have a big back Avery Boyd is our Ed Wilder screen to him , use him to run block naked dives out of the gun are Patenaude plays - try a jet sweep we never get our playmakers involved on 3rd and 4th and short
we ran a damn end around to Boyd, who promptly got hit for a 2-yard loss.

Looking at the big picture of the game and not individual plays...

Bad:
- Our inside running game got destroyed. Need better blocking, better reads, better playcalls, adjustments, or something...
- Pass defense not good. Awful job covering drag routes and deep balls especially. Not enough QB pressure.
- Special teams mistakes: High snap and getting FG kick-sixed, fielding punt within 5, running into the kicker to end the game.
- Recurring problem with clock management nearing end of half or game. Always end up letting too much clock run. Coaches need practice on simulators or something.

Good:
- King on target with his throws and receivers did a great job catching a lot of tough balls.

Unintentionally, the list of bad includes every major part of the team: offense, defense, special teams, and coaches. Not good.

We have the talent to beat Syracuse and Louisville probably 50% of the time. Sure we could use better linemen, bigger backs, taller faster receivers, etc . But 95% of teams can say that. Louisville and Syracuse aren't factory schools with 5 stars two deep at every position. We have weaknesses like most teams but we have the talent to compete with most teams. I really think CPJ or Saban or any good experienced coach would by 5-0 with the talent we have.

I really think we were out coached in our two losses. With that being said, I still think Key is a good coach. Hopefully Key will get better at in game decisions with more experience. I still think the defense has improved and will improve as the year goes on.

CBF is the one I'm confused about. His play calling seems much worse this year. More conservative and predictable. We returned most of the offense but it's like he lost half the playbook from last year.

For the love of ööööing god how many times do I have to explain this? Vegas picks the spread to try to make exactly 50% of the bets for one team and 50% for the other.

The Vegas line is not a proxy for the likelihood of a win.
Funny how having more money bet on your team is a proxy for a win though

For a team that chose to take on an identity of a tough, blue collar, grind it out brand of football, we are playing like a bunch of pussies. Missing the 3rd and 4th and short plays was pussy ball.

We can beat anyone; and lose to anyone. The team played solid all day just gave away too many points on pivotal plays (fumble, block td, missed fg, goal line stand).

I think they want to be tough. Key coached like it in spots. But we’re still pussies.

I feel like brent key wants us to be what illinois and nebraska and iowa are and truth be told we are not that we need to adapt to the tech style

Bull öööö. This is a garbage take bro. Besides his boneheaded decision he was a bright spot today.
Agree. Also, it wasn't that terrible of a decision, the guy just made a spectacular play. King wasnt improvising, that was the play. It's basically triple option with the wr screen being the pitch man. Watch the replay. If he gets that throw out clean, it's a 90yd TD for Malik.

If we can't score more than 30, we deserve to lose

We need a true "pro style" OC. Running every ööööing running play from the pistol/shotgun allows the opposition to tee off on our anemic running game.

QB under center, TE, FB, TB....it isn't that complicated. A Mike Cox style FB paving the way on those plays. A QB sneak under center with a FB, TB, and motion TE to push and slam into the line. I am tired of seeing the shotgun designed run and see pussyfooting to the LOS looking for a hole. Plow a hole.

I know some say we run a pro style offense, but every pro team I have ever seen has QB under center plays, including KC, who play the Falcons tonight.

Fix it. If you consider yourself a power team, a running team, design plays that way.

Where have the backup running backs gone?
serious question.
has Cooly played this year?
walk-on chad had good plays in game2 then gone...
Carrie had good carries in game3 , then poof?
Maddox is an architecture major - guess we could build around that?
.
.
no reason given(personal reasons) for Leary leaving the team or if he may return.
