I want to believe but I’m finding it harder to believe when ish like Saturday happens. We can’t blame talent for Saturday, so it’s squarely on the coaches. And the coaching buck stops with him, unquestionably.

for all the talk of speed, our guys looked slow. For all the talk about weight training and size of recruits, our guys were pushed around.

i don’t know. I still feel numb.

When GC was hired, I didn’t know a lot about him other than he had been a good recruiter in the past. I hoped he could still recruit at a high level. I knew he had been a defensive coach several places and hoped he could help to improve our defense. I didn’t know anything about him as a head coach and that was the biggest concern for me. “Good” recruiters or defensive assistants don’t necessarily make good head coaches. When they do make good head coaches it is usually because they have the good sense to surround themselves with good assistants. He has proven to be adept at recruiting. He has not improved the defense. He has not surrounded himself with good coordinators. I doubt with Tech’s financial limitations that we can afford to hire really good coordinators with a proven track record. IIWII. I know this is an uphill battle to D1 football respectability, but I am seeing no overall improvement from years 1 and 2. Hence, my disapproval.

I played for coach collins dad in middle and high school. Billy Collins, baby! Used to see him run on hwy 20 early in the mornings. He was a character. He was also a great coach. I'm still praying the apple doesn't fall far.

A year one loss to the Citadel is unacceptable but if you are being charitable you give it a pass. I did. A year three loss to NIU is not defensible. I don't give a öööö about the greatest transformation in college football history. I don't give a öööö how much magic exists with the 404 brand stuff. Getting your öööö pushed in by NIU is unacceptable. Period. This isn't an upset by a middle of the road ACC team. This is App State vs Michigan. Only problem is you perceive yourself to be Michigan. Reality is you are less.

You cannot tell me with a straight face that this coaching staff will win at, to quote the head coach, "an elite level."

College football...

Tier 1: Ryan Day, Nick Saban, Dabo Swinney

Tier 2: Brian Kelly, Kirby Smart, Kyle Whittingham, Lincoln Riley, Jimbo Fisher, Dan Mullen, James Franklin, Pat Fitzgerald

Geoff Collins can't even sniff the jock of these guys. Three years of record breaking LOSSES

It's over

How can you not disapprove after week 1? We had more talent but lost to a MAC team.

Maybe I don’t have the same working definition of “approve,” but I don’t know how anyone can approve a loss to NIU.

Good or bad, it ain’t over. But I’m hanging my hopes on the good.

The honeymoon is over. Excuse time is over. Dude needs to win now. And we’re about to blow the doors of Kennesaw State and then shock the world when we beat Clemson.

I hope you're right but Clemson definitely feels implausible based on what I saw out of them against Georgia. Maybe we will get lucky against Kennessaw State... Let that last statement sink in.

DJ Jazzy Geoff is the Paul Hewitt of college football. Our team can't do the basic fundamentals well (substitute players on defense without 14 on the field, kick a field goal) because we brand ourselves as a developmental program and emphasize individual over team performance.

When Homer Rice, Zelnak and Garrett say it is time to win and win at least 6 games this year, and he responds with that loss, then you can add 3 more votes to the disapproval count.

It depends on how you interpret the question. I am viewing it as something like a recall or no confidence vote instead of a snapshot of how I feel in the moment. I wouldn't vote to recall him today if there was such a thing for football coaches, so I said approve. That may well not be what the OP intended, but I chose to interpret it that way.

Gooff Collins is a joke. 0-12.

Gooff Collins responded with a loss because he doesn’t care if he wins or not. He is laughing all the way to the bank with his $14 million, seven year contract that doesn’t state anything about wins or losses. Laughing at Stupidsbury too. Gooff knows all he has to do is keep repeating “We’re working really, really hard to get better every single day” over and over, and Todd eats it right up. That is the way of a slick used car salesman. :readthis:

Lots of qualifiers fight for priority in my mind for a binary question like this.

Branding and recruiting: 100% approve.

On field performance: TBD, if I am honest. A lot will depend on how he handles this season in the “CEO” capacity. The coordinators flat did not get it done vs NIU. Collins owns that in the end but it’s probably hard to tell where you stand with confidence until you start playing other teams. Coord’s got a pass in year 0 and year 1 so this is their probably their first true assessment against ‘should be’ but they’ve had 2 years to prep for the exam. Apart from a significant course correction on offense, CDP is gone by year end as the sacrificial lamb. I think CGC is more likely to cut bait on OC if he feels he can lean in and ‘help’ DC, for better or worse.

I’m not in the camp lambasting him for pulling the FG unit to go for it on 4th. Crowd reaction as a correlation is not definitive enough to me as reasoning for his action but I see where that argument comes from.

I don’t read too much into press conference fodder as a barometer for the locker room conversation that will go on. I’m curious to see player statements ahead of next week as they are usually less tactful about what’s going on.

On the strength of the above, I guess I’m still in the Approve camp when strictly opposed to Disapprove but it’s thinner than thin after NIU.
Well stated

If we can't beat KSU, I'm done with football for the season and will expect to see new faces on the sideline next year. But we're beating KSU. The real question in my mind is can Geoff pull a rabbit out of his ass and turn the season around and go bowling. Seems unlikely, but that's why you play the games.

The ATL stuff is only BS because we’re losing - and you’re old. The recruits love it. Start winning and you won’t care about the ATL stuff any more.
I am far from old, and far from 18. ATL is dumb, money down is dumb, controlling the band play is asinine. I overlooked it due to the "toughest rebuild in all of sports history." That is over for me.

I stopped watching pressers and listening to radio/TV interviews sometime last season. It was always the same BS. This was the first I have watched since. Same BS. Ken gave him a chance to save face, but he showed his clown side.

He couldn't coach a fat kid at a buffet to get full.

Unless you are a factory, recruiting is a crapshoot. On paper it looks good so far but results on the field are the ultimate rest.

Why can’t we have a winning coach AND good recruiting?
I think we can with the right coach. Assuming we decide to make a change, the question is are we willing or able to pay enough to maximize our chances. The last time we seemed willing to do that was with Coach Gailey.

I have thought of two potential options if we decide to change directions.
Expensive option - Hire Bill O'Brien as head coach. Hire George Godsey as Offensive Coordinator.
Cheaper option - Promote Brent Key to head coach. Promote Tashard Choice to Offensive Coordinator.

I have no idea who to pursue for defensive coordinator in either scenario.
