The only reason he appears to be better at managing the clock is because those situations haven’t arisen much this season. Just wait until we are in nut crunching time again and his ineptitude will be there for all to see. If the Miami game is close it’s going to be fun watching Manny Diaz match wits with Geoff Collins. The last time I saw such a battle of giants was when my son played Upward basketball and the two coaches were the church secretary and one of the bubba dads.

Well, we did burn a timeout to get the right personnel on the field against VT.

For a punt return.

A valid question. I thought the coordinator deals were the same duration as Collins’ contract

Outside of a few top flight coordinators, it seems that their contract duration is much shorter than the head coach's. I have heard of some "guarantees" of salary for a coordinator, but those are rare, imo at the college level.

Coordinators saw the same thing HC candidates saw in 2018. Why am I going to risk my career on a roster that I don’t think I can succeed with? That’s why we got a journeyman and a neophyte.

Maybe now the roster is in such a shape it doesn’t scare coaches away?

Likely. Also very likely that Collins (or someone else hired away) was always bringing his staff with him unless one of them were a candidate for the head job he just vacated.

if that was part of the pitch there is no reason to believe we could’ve gotten better.

More money always helps. If you do hire a new coach, you aren't hiring anyone good that isn't going to bring in/have final say on who the other coaches are. Collins could have taken less money with more money for the staff if he felt that strongly about it.

TDope has some decisions to make. Chiefly, how does he get more money for much better coordinators (with a better roster than '19 to start from) since the head coach is very underwhelming on gameday (to this point) and it is much cheaper to do than paying a buyout and bringing in a new staff. Will Collins look to hire upgrades or be loyal to the coaches from temple? Need a major upgrade on coordinators for Collins to be successful at GT, imo.

On top of everything else, looking at what Temple has been since Collins left doesn't instill me with any hope or confidence.

If you take away Jahmyr’s big 61-yard run in the second half that led to zero points, the RB group only ran for 62 yards on 18 attempts.

GT finished a barfing up some Now or Laters worthy 3-of-12 on 3rd downs and only 1-of-3 on 4th down conversions. That’s just not going to cut it, even in the weak ACC Coastal. Tech also committed seven penalties for 77 yards and turned the ball over twice compared to VT’s zero turnovers.

Aside from two big run plays, one by Jahmyr and one by Jeff, the ground game was as limited as the pass attack. The coaching staff had all game to see that, and still decided to try and run it up the middle (OUT OF THE SHOTGUN) on a 4th & 2 late in the game. The play had zero chance. There was no read involved, which is what makes this offense difficult to defend.

This is on the AD. He was duped by the sales pitch and now is suffering with an inferior product. We seriously lack in player development and in game day scheming and game day coaching decisions. Any hope to beat VT vanished when coach went for it on 4th down with over 8 minutes to go in the game. Another of many coaching mistakes that we see over and over. If the AD chooses to do nothing to correct this, in a year or two, the stadium will be empty and the revenue issues we hear so much about will worsen.
I agree. LSU and Ole Miss did the same thing with meathead Orgeron. Yes, he inherited Joe Burrow, but sources say the AD chose the 2 coordinators that did all the work during the championship season and O did the cheerleading. He was an LSU man, and he is now out. Same with Patterson at TCU. I learned a long time ago in business that if someone is failing, only 1 in 100 will self-reflect and turn it around. Most of the time what you see is what you are going to get from your initial gut assessment. Kelly at Notre Dame is maybe the only coach I can think of that righted the ship. We can fire the coordinators and let Collins cheerlead for another season, but I have no confidence in Collins or the AD to recruit assistants we need. The first step is to face the cold reality - we just aren't good.

was reading coaching hot seat list on CBSports... Fuente near the damn top. smh.

Oh wow this is the lowest approval I’ve seen. Only 6 votes? Damn.

In for a penny, in for a pound, gotta keep supporting the Guy.

Hopefully he can Recruit his way out of this malaise, or the Players will sack up and realize that Playing P5 CFB is a great opportunity for themselves and put aside pettiness for the greater good and Man up.

I haven’t voted yes since after the UNC game. I definitely disapprove of the on the field results produced by our coaching staff. But I fully support them and our team.

Thank you for your sacrifice.

If this poll had been running since 2019, when do you think Peak Collins would have been? I'd say either after FSU or Louisville wins in 2020.

It is just reflecting the on the field results. First four games, we went toe to toe with Clemson and beat a ranked team. We were maybe 4 plays from being 4-0.

Then Pitt crushed us. We needed everything to slide by Duke. We needed two onside kicks to make a loss to uva look respectable. We lost to a bad vt team who may fire their coach.

We really need to win one or both of the next two. 5 wins shows improvement where it counts. 4 wins is an improvement too, but won’t get a resounding
approval from the fanbase. “Wait until next year” is a hard sell three years running.

UNC this year. Ranked team after a good showing against Clemson.

The FSU win was cool. First time seeing Jeff Sims and his body type and I think wow what an athlete.

4 wins is not an improvement. We beat 3 ACC teams last year. 4 wins this year would be also beating 3 ACC teams plus an FCS.
