Did our OL really play that much better against UNC?

TOP was in UNC's favor with respect to their D, so they should not have been gassed in the Q3 & Q4.

Did we make adjustments in our blocking to take advantage of something that the coaches saw in their defense?

It was all working SOOOO well, that, at times, I thought UNC was letting us score so that they could control the ball/clock with their offense and score "last" at the end of the game to win.

I'm thrilled with the win!! But I'm just a little bit shocked at how suddenly our OL seemed to gel and open lanes for our RB's.

GO JACKETS!! Let's beat beat the wine and cheese out of The French!!

No doubt we were not stopping them and without the Walker fumble they would have scored again to take the lead. But they definitely were trying to stop our last possession and we were able to get the first down and run the clock out.

It’s difficult to say how much was our superior play vs this being their worst defensive performance of the year. Clearly Faulkner brought his A game, however.

The left side of your "or" had something to do with the right side of your "or". Their defense wasn't performing against air.

Whenever Williams is in the game at G, he elevates the play of the rest of our OL. In the replay I noticed that UNC didn't sub nearly as much as we did on D. The only issue we have when we have so many personnel packages on D is that you've got to be organized and be ready to sub quickly. We almost got caught several times shuttling players in and out too late but we didn't have a BG type debacle with too few or too many players. The upside is that our D has been typically fresh rotating 8-10 players on the DL and up to 5-6 LBs in the LB corps routinely. UNC's D was gassed going into the 4th qtr for sure. Also, I think UNC's time of possession was more than ours on O but it didn't seem like it!

CBF definitely called a great game and the OL was definitely playing/blocking well.

I am hoping that this was an "aha" moment, when things "clicked", and that it lasts for the rest of the season!

GO JACKETS!! Beat The French!! Make all The Hoos down in Hooville cry Booo Hooo!!

Williams was making a big difference in the O when he was in against BC from what I saw. Maybe the combination of Williams and a reenergized Dontae made the difference.

The TV announcers speculated that UNC might have been feeling cumulative fatigue from the UVA game and our rushing attack. I dunno, considering they got the third quarter off, it’s weird that they were gassed, but we were definitely running it down their throats in the 4Q.

The O line looked great live. I went back and re-watched, and focused on the O line. We looked great on replay too.

We were pulling Guards and opening huge holes.

I saw Franklin absolutely pancake one of UNC's best defenders.

There were plays when all 5 of our guys "beat" their guy.

I saw some effective double teams and at times their D line looked like it was on ice skates.

This game was the best O Line play I've seen since 2014.

If we were to have the run production like we had last Sat night or anything north of 200 yds, AND the passing game, watch out for the rest of the season. I know it won't be an exact duplication week in and week out but it was great to see what we're capable of in the ground game.

Look no further:

Q1: 12 rushes 43 yards (rush/pass ratio: 55%)
Q2: 12 rushes 49 yards (rush/pass ratio: 46%)
Q3: 2 rushes 10 yards (rush/pass ratio: 33%)
Q4: 22 rushes 246 yards (rush/pass ratio: 92%)

You can't do that without an OL just steamrolling people.

And for the sharp-eyed among you, yes, we only ran 6 plays in the entire third quarter. Our ToP in Q3 was an unbelievable 104 seconds total.

The 4th quarter of this game reminded me a little bit of our game vs the dwags in 2009. They literally just beat us to death with their OL. That's pretty much what we did to UNC.

Don't have time to look it up but 246 yards on the ground in a single quarter (against an FBS team) has to be in record territory. I don't have a good source for historical stuff by game by quarter.

One of our drives in the 4th, we ran 9 plays and went 88 yards in 2:50. We had no incompletions, so the clock never stopped. We pushed the tempo basically as fast as we could out of no where and UNC was in a tornado trying to stop us.

UNC's defense is almost as bad as ours but the OL did execute very well for the most part. Fantastic win.

There were gaping holes. Haynes was also having a great day before he went down.

UNC run D sucks as much as our. UVA wore them down too.

Here are some examples:

@7:17. Watch the center (Franklin) the entire play. Then go back and watch the same play again. Pause. Every OL beats their man (and credit to the TE too!).

@8:55. Watch the pulling guard (Fusile). What the impact when he gets to the UNC player.

If we can ever start stringing together all these pieces consistently, look out. We can beat everyone left on the schedule, but we’ll see if we have a major relapse again this week.

Next year has so much potential if we can keep the key pieces on the offense together.

I see what you did there... :)
