it is VERY hard to evaluate the offense when the O'line is under performing. Ever since the 1st quarter of the Notre Dame game the O'line play has been dismal.

Yesterday Reggie made some solid plays RIGHT BEFORE getting slammed.

If we DO NOT get better play out of the O'line then 9 wins will NOT happen.

Time of possession has been a huge problem as well but if we straighten out the O'line then that should solve that problem.

Law: The schemes are the problem. We have no quick hitting plays. Expecting an offensive line to hold a block for an eternity while the backs are reading or just getting the ball is ridiculous. Also, Reggie does very little on the option to draw the defense to him before he pitches the ball.

did you go to the game?

there were no less than 8 plays were D players came in UNTOUCHED.

Some of these were missed blocks by the LINE. As bad as it is for a RB to throw a chicken wing out at an LB it is unforgivable for a Guard,Tackle or Center.

The line play was so poor that they pulled the first string by the 2nd quarter. (then started rotating players)

Reggie's mobility is the only reason we won that game. If our line does not improve you can forget about Bennett playing. He will take 5 sacks a game minimum. It will be Booker or some mobile qb.

Yeah, did you go to the game? Our schemes are designed to cover up flaws on the OL, with quick hitting plays.

What quick hitting plays? We're runnig a shotgun most plays right? And our running game is primarily made up of delays of one sort or another right? So where are the quick hitting plays you speak of?

I wasn't impressed with our Oline at the ND game. By the sounds of it, it seemed Reggie was having to unload the ball quickly or run it against Samford and Troy.

Really what can be done? I'm not truly happy with our OLine coach. But to be honest I think it is a talent issue as much as it is a coaching issue.

Our Left Guard gets pushed around like a little girl.

ncjacket: There isn't any quick hitting plays by the ground or the air. There is feints and delays but nothing quick.

The O-Line is suspect and have been since the advent of Gaileyball. We've been eecking out a living on the O-Line with smoke and mirrors. Pretty damn good, btw, but it's a problem we need to address.

How Gailey hired dook's failed OL Coach to make TECH the best is still beyond me. Chan's methods are a little strange.

You are exactly right Lawbee.

Football is a game of blocking (offense) and tackling (defense).

Fans that believe you can scheme around a lack of blocking in any meaningful way show that they don't understand the game.

No one is saying you can scheme around no blocking. But we have what we have up front and we have to have a scheme that gives us our best bet to be successful. We can't recruit a new OL now, so we have to figure out how to use what we have.

Some of y'all always praise the offensive line during the offseason and then rip it during the fall.....

Lets get this straight: We have the young men to build a offensive line. If there is a problem it is with the coaching. Do you scheme around the coaching? Of course not. And the coaches are not trying to scheme around the offensive line. That's ridiculous.

It's darn funny how some of you praise Reggie endlessly despite his lack of fundementals and so forth but you rip the offensive line for a problem you can't put your finger on.

Joe D'Allesandris, is he a good offensive line coach? I don't know and neither do most of you. But everyone should consider the overall offense.....the skill positions behind them and how long it takes to get the ball past the line of scrimmage. Speed is certainly an emphasis in our recruiting but our use of it is terrible.

The OL coach we had before Gailey got here was a keeper, we just didn't keep him.:ugh: He went out west some place, I think. A large state, west of the Mississippi river.........name escapes me.:hsugh:

No offense, but this is a dumb comment from someone who obviously doesn't understand simple psychology.

YES!! You are right, Mac McWhorter was a great OLine coach and certainly better than Coach D who I have never been terribly fond of. That said, Coach Mac lobbied hard for our head coaching job and most of the players wanted him as Coach. He didn't get it, and was terribly pissed. As a new HC coming in, YOU DON'T KEEP A GUY ON YOUR STAFF that wanted your job and has the players EAR!!! Your setting yourself up for failure.

Its the same concept the Armed forces uses when they promote someone. That person automatically goes somewhere else to be a commander away from those he came up in the system with. That way, there is no questioning of his authority. The soldiers don't feel split by two potential leaders because they rationalize that one is just as important than the other, when in reality one is higher ranked than the other.

This should be obvious, but it amazes me at the number of times each year someone will bring this up. Completely ignorant comment.

the O'line is NOT as good as last year to this point and they were SUPPOSE to be better this year.

I think this is a problem they will solve, but we need it to happen.

Also it appears that Evans is quicker than Choice and we need that quickness.

I personally think Grant is the best running back we got. It's ashame he did not line up at the tailback position even once yesterday.

Evans looked real good. He should give us the opportunity to redshirt one or two of those two hotshot RBs we've got coming in.

Very odd. I have not been a fan of the O line at all or with CG's lack of consistent recruiting for same , BUT I see we did gain net 320 yds rushing. That is 3-2-0.Not 120 and scored 35. How bad could it have the blocking been?

the ONLY 100 yd rusher was your QUARTERBACK that is not good. Over 100 yds were gained on reverses.

All this means when the D was in your backfield either your QB rushed it or the D over pursued and we gained yds on the reverse.

the last few minutes we were getting some movement but for OVER 3 QUARTERS our O'line could not protect QB or open up holes.

Who was Texas's leading rusher in their NC win?
Who was Texas's leading rusher last year?

for OVER 3 QUARTERS our O'line could not protect QB or open up holes.

We only punted once in the second half, and scored two touchdowns in the first half.
