One thing from today

We didn't get out coached and out schemed. A select few players didn't make simple plays that would have turned the game completely.

Key and his staff had a very sound game plan.
For the most part it was a sound plan. But as my friends in the Army say, no plan survives first contact with the enemy.
I don't know about outschemed. Why do we still cover the RB wheel route with the best pass rushing DE we have? And once again, we gave up a huge play on it.
After the first two drops by our TEs, I wouldn't have looked their way again, and Gibson did try to force one into Leonard through three defenders.

I think the dropped passes made a big difference. The first one down the middle of the field would have been a huge play and the offense was having some success early in the game. The dropped pass deep in our territory in the second half led to the muffed punt and the wheels fell off. I think it could have been a two score game.
Certainly the first drop knocked us out of what could have been field goal range.
But you never really know what would have transpired had those catches been made. They hurt, but they didn't cost us the game or would have allowed us to make that much closer in the end.
And when you're that big of an underdog, you can't afford a mistake. We made more than our share, big and small.

100% correct sir. Without the horrific mistakes, that’s a 2 score game. Dwags play like that against Michigan, it will be a 3 score game….Michigan winning.

Shanahan has been a huge disappointment. Of course we get the guy from the Aussie kicking academy who sucks.

Of the many, many things to be frustrated about over the last couple of years, punting and tight end play are at the top of the list for me.

It drives me crazy to see literally every other team have no problem getting punts off and covering them and pinning teams deep. We can’t do any of that. And the succession of nameless transfer stiffs at TE that contribute next to nothing drives me nuts. I want to see those things improved first and foremost next year.

Well if we settle on Key maybe he can recruit his buddy coaching the TEs for Baltimore Ravens. Maybe he would like to call plays.

The first drop, botched punt, and fumble were difference makers. To beat these guys we had to play an almost perfect game. If we had gotten up 10-0 or 14-0 Georgia may have tightened a bit more.
All those mistakes were relatively in a window... which compounded the impact. Its hard to make one mistake its even harder to make 3-4 in nearly back to back moments.

I'm not super strong on this position, but I wonder what number of what if mistakes is too many? There must be some amount that isn't bad luck.

We talk about "what if the TE catches those balls", but have they shown at all this season that we could expect that of them?

If we are doing a post-mortem of mistakes. Can someone help me understand:

1. How the Bowers touchdown pass was ruled complete even after video review
2. And the mysterious incomplete pass that should have resulted in a fumble recovery for Tech

Not to downplay the punting woes we’ve experienced, but we were use to seeing Presley Harvin boom the crap out of the ball.
