Options for OC

Nix was getting paid $175K and top OC's get paid $300-400K so that would be an extra $125-225K per year. 7 home games times 20K season ticketholders equals 140k so for less than $2 per ticket we can upgrade to a top notch OC.

Good Coaches = Good Players
Good Coaches + Good Players = More Wins
More Wins = More Fans
More Fans = More Revenue

Agree on the money issue.

However, Nix was guaranteed $145k at GT. By comparison, David Cutcliffe is the highest paid OC in the country at $300k guaranteed I believe. Neal Callway was paid $205k at UGA before he left for the UAB job.

Regardless of the exact figures, the additional cost of a top notch OC versus a less experienced OC seems to be fairly insignificant in the grand scheme of things especially in light of the potential impact it could have via improved on the field performance.

How much more revenue would the GTAA have generated from us winning the ACC Title this year?

I know that bowl money is split, but I have to believe that we would have sold a lot of merchandise and had bigger donations.

Chris Hatcher would have come to Tech as OC. But now he has climbed the ladder to HFC at GSU. Too late. He would have been a good one.

Here is the guy I am pimping on the Hive:

Many people don't like this guy becuase he was here when B*** L**** was here. Of course, those folks are just reacting to the name and not the track record.

Rusty Burns

Coaching Experience: Joined the SMU staff on Jan. 8, 2004... Arrived on the Hilltop after two seasons as offensive coordinator at Cincinnati... Led the Bearcats to the 2002 Conference USA championship and to school records for passing yards, total offense and points... UC's offensive attack led C-USA in both total offense (397.5 ypg) and passing offense (260.6 ypg) in 2002... Tutored quarterback Gino Guidugli to All-Conference honors... Also served as quarterbacks coach at UC from 1989-91...

Served as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Wyoming (1999-2001) and worked as offensive coordinator at Springfield College (1978-79), Connecticut (1980-8 and Memphis (1996-9 and as assistant coach at Georgia Tech (1992-94)... Credited with developing Wyoming's All-Mountain West Conference quarterback Casey Bramlet, who threw for 3,069 yards and ranked 14th in the nation in total offense in 2001... His transformation of the offensive attack led to the Cowboys having the most improved offense in the conference in 2001;

Here are the stats from his RS-Freshman QB at SMU:

Justin Willis

#2 Conference USA Passer Rating of 158.42
SMU #4 Scoring Offense in CUSA at 27.1 ppg
Passing Statistics
CMP ATT YDS CMP% YDS/A TD INT SACKS RAT

182 270 2047 67.4 7.6 26 6 28 158.42

Based on what he did with QB's at Wyoming, Cincy and SMU, I would take him in a second. Especially since one of the big complaints has been our lack of QB development and we don't have a ton of money to spend.

Doesn't anyone else miss the third and long draw play? Or the insistence on passing the ball even if they can't stop the run to achieve that mythical balance that offenses must attain?

Bring back that Chantastic offense!

I would be shocked if it was announced that CG was taking back playcalling. To believe that he could would also mean that he voluntarily gave up the duty last season.
Addendum: The only way CG calls plays this year is if DR severely overreacts to the longterm need of balancing the budget.

There. I have covered myself. ;)

We need to bring in someone who is a proven OC. The last thing I want to see is an experiment with a Division I-AA coach whose offense might work against the mighty Blue Hens of Delaware but is not proven to work against I-A opponents.

Bringing in a proven Division I-A OC would not only get GT fans excited for next year, it would probably boost attendance as well.

Still don't get it pw. Just who do you think forced Chan to change? Braine? He was gone. DRad? He was brand new and had no way to buy out the contract. Help me here. Or was it the mysterious man who forced him to play RB?
